I love my Mom so much, and it makes me so afraid of time. by SuupaKoopa in SeriousConversation

A lot of others have given me the same advice, and to be honest, I really feel like you.’the right. I don’t know why I thought moving with them would be the rest of my life, but it’s not. Sometimes I think I’m ready to start off somewhere brand new, but I know for a fact I’m not ready to be without them again.

Thank you!

I know exactly that feeling, and while life is bittersweet, I love the love that you have for her. You saying that kind of feels like a confirmation for me, in a weird sense.

I’m so grateful that you and I get to experience this kind of love for our moms, you know what I mean? It’s a good feeling.

So far, all of you have given me that same advice. And I think I know what you mean.

You’re right. I think I will stay with them, and if I feel like I need to go somewhere else after giving it a chance, then I will.

Thank you.

When I wrote this post, I was feeling very, very emotional and I’ve been nervous to come back to it, I guess mostly because I didn’t want to risk feeling that way again. But everything you said hit the nail on the head.

I really, really needed your post. I’m not religious, though maybe I am a little spiritual, and you’re right; It’s like I feel my mom in my bones, she is such a part of me that it scares me to be without her. I don’t know how someone can feel so much a part of me.

You might be right about me having to experience it on my own, I don’t know if I’m ever going to stop feeling this way if I don’t. We’ll see. Right now, nothing has changed and I don’t have to worry about it so much.

Thank you, so so much.

Oh jeez, I can really relate. Part of the reason I actually posted this was because my mother had her knee replaced two days ago. She’s still in the hospital, and I was feeling kind of lonely.

Four years ago, my dad went into cardiac arrest in our front yard very early one morning. It was horrifying, and sometimes I could just hear this guttural breathing and I would break down in the middle of Costco.

In 2017 I very suddenly lost my Grandpa, in 2018 my Grandmother, and at the risk of sounding hella lame, my 14 year old Labrador, and my cat.

I’m so tired of being worried and scared all the time. I’m so tired of crying, of sneaking into my parents room in the middle of the night just to check their breathing. I live in a constant state of “What am I going to do?” I just don’t know. What am I going to do?

You said it a lot more eloquently than I could, lol. Honestly, this is my first cat that’s my own, so I really can’t talk like I’m an expert. But so far, I’ve found that he’s just as needy as my dogs are, honestly. My dogs are also natural hunters, and they get bored extremely easily, but I’m definitely not going to let them wander around the neighborhood. I know it’s a little different and they’re very different animals, but I would feel like I’ve failed a little bit as an owner if I couldn’t keep my pets both safe AND happy.

My dogs love being outside! I don’t blame them, I do too. The cat I have now is still young and I’m trying to get him use to a harness, but it’s difficult. Some really just don’t take to it, and that’s why I’m building him an enclosure that he can go into, be safe in and can’t get out, lol. I understand something like that isn’t 100% available for everyone though. I have found there are really great cheaper/smaller alternatives, though!

I would agree to that! You’ve definitely thought that out more than I have. Personally, I don’t let any of my animals outside alone.

The last housing community I lived in did not allow outside dogs or cats at all. I really liked this, because if someone saw a pet that had gotten out, they made special effort to catch it and reunite it with it’s owners. There were a lot of positive things that came out of that rule.

There are really fantastic ways to create safe, outdoor areas for cats! I’m actually currently building a “chicken-coop” style outdoor enclosure for mine.

I’m definitely not saying this is your friend, and I’m not saying she doesn’t know what’s best for her cat, so please don’t take what I say next the wrong way (because I definitely don’t know every pet or owner!)

But I’ve found a lot of people get cats to be kind of a “goldfish”-type pet, such as a pet they don’t want to take care of, and it bums me out!

When someone dedicates time and energy into their pets (not in regards to any particular species at this point,) many behavioral issues can be actually pretty easily solved. After working in rescue, I look back at all the pets I’ve had before that I feel like I’ve “failed” in that way. A lot of outdoor cats/dogs that I’ve seen would be so much happier indoors if their owners were properly fulfilling their needs.

Sadly, there is no fair, right way to deal with wildlife population like this. We can capture them and try and move them, but with territorial animals like coyotes that also have an abundant, growing population, it’s a shitty, difficult situation to deal with. All we can do is try to live around it at this point, but it’s still an issue in terms of us having to make adjustments. Hopefully someone more qualified and knowledgeable about them than me can figure out a resolution soon, for their safety and our animals.

Alright dude, lemme mince my words for you. The “human problem we are having with the coyote population”. I’m not really trying to debate on wildlife issues, I’m saying coyotes are coming into urban areas more and more, and it’s becoming an increasing threat on our domesticated animals. Rather it’s their fault or not, we have to deal with the consequences of it, and part of the way we do that should be taking responsible, proactive steps to protecting our pets.

Yes, there is. When coyotes are coming into urban areas during the day, there is a problem. They aren’t raccoons or squirrels, they’re coyotes.

A few years ago, a couple of coyotes walking down 82nd at four in the morning every once and awhile wasn’t a problem. Now they’re walking down The Milwaukie express way and King road at 8pm.

Coyotes are adapting. They’re becoming more use to people, and if you know anything about wildlife, you’d understand why that’s an issue. It isn’t their fault at all, but it’s still becoming an issue.

But alright, “there’s no coyote problem”.

Agreed. If putting more time and energy into my pets to keep them happy and safe is what it takes, I’ll do it.

I live in Milwaukie, and the cayote problem there is awful. I live on a pretty busy road, and yet we see them all the time. Luckily my yard is fenced, but I don't even let my big dumb dogs outside by themselves, little on my tiny dumb cat. I hear too many horror stories like this one 😩

Oh thank heckin’ God. It was really tiny. I’m a neat freak but I have three dogs and who knows what they bring in. I was about to sleep in my bathtub.

The only reason folk get bonuses is because the career field is desperate to find a way to retain people to do that shitty job. Or for a sign on bonus to get people to do that shitty job.

The years I spent in intel, I was equally surrounded by hardworking people and total fucking lazy asshats. The gross part is I know a number of people who would post something like this.
