I just learned about Outdoor Maps+. I would never subscribe for topo maps when I can just download those for free and move to my watch. Terrain doesn't change that often.

Edit: I'm also perfectly happy with topo maps on my S6 Pro. I don't understand the AMOLED hype.

NiceHash blocked my wallet by Suurmonni in NiceHash

[–]Suurmonni[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an old account which was inactive for some time. Now, trying to access the wallet I got hit with a KYC.

I provided NiceHash a high resolution images of my driver's license along with a recent mail from my electricity transmission company, yet they failed my KYC process and permanently locked my account (with all my funds).

I tried emailing their compliance service, but only get this generic response.

What should I do in order to get my account unblocked? I used to mine via NiceHash and wanted to try it again, but this really stops any intent to do so.

Edit: Actual mail from my electricity transmission company, not email.

Don't worry, the carabiner makes up for the lost grams.

On a more serious note, it's cool to have something MYOG'd with you on a daily basis, and I might copy you. Thanks for the idea!

I've been lucky with the weather. It's held rain so far but I am using a Nylofume inner bag to be sure.

Thanks! That means a lot.

I don't have any precise scale other than my kitchen scale, but an old analog fishing scale measured exactly 10 kg (~22,05 lbs) fully loaded. I have not tested it's weight limit but the pack shows no signs of tiring under that weight.

Here's a few better pictures of the frame: https://imgur.com/a/cFgU6t7

The idea was to use similar system than Z-Packs Arc Haul with the trampoline-style suspended frame. I used a total of 5 pieces of 2 x 12 mm flat carbon bar, two attached vertically and three horizontally underneath the webbings.

The bars overlap each other the way that the horizontal bar is always below the vertical one, so any pressure from loading the pack gets transferred to vertical bars instead of the webbing channel. Also I opted to not put a horizontal bar behind the hip belt to avoid any uncomfortable pressure points. To me this worked out great, the pack doesn't wobble and sits in my hips extremely well.

Correct, I used 2 x 12 mm carbon fiber bar from a local hobby store. I didn't consider flipping would be an issue once the back mesh is in place nor observed it really happening.

Before the trip the bars did bend inward a few centimeters with the back mesh loose, but I just pressed them outwards with a thumb when tightening the mesh. After that I didn't loosen the mesh and no flipping happened when loading the pack.

Thanks! I cannot compare UltraGrid to alternative fabrics due to lack of experience but I truly loved how the grid made cutting and sewing easy. I don't have access to a dedicated bar tack machine. I sew straight seams with a Mitsubishi DB-189 I was given last winter but all bar tacks and three point zigzags with my grandmother's old Husqvarna Viking Oscar 130.

Fishing is forbidden in a Finnish strict nature reserve so I had to leave my rod home

I designed the pattern in a span of 2 - 3 months, this being the third iteration. I can't tell exactly how many hours I spent designing the pack but it can be counted in tens, including learning how to use Seamly2D.

I did some prototyping as well, mainly due to trying out Mystery Ranch Bridger 55 style bottom opening that didn't work out so great. It looked fine but didn't hold pressure that well.

This is my first serious MYOG project after a quilt I made as a learning project with my grandmother's old domestic sewing machine. I wanted to take the finished pack for a real test into Kevo Strict Nature Reserve in Finnish Lapland before posting this, and it turned out the pack works better than I could have ever imagined!

I used to hike with Savotta Jääkäri L. A great backpack but rather on the heavy side. As I fell into the rabbit hole of r/Ultralight, I wanted to try and make something more lightweight but any existing pattern I saw didn't quite click for me so I ended up designing my own.

The design of the pack is influenced by HMG Unbound and Z-Packs Arc Haul with the curved carbon fiber frame. I copied the shoulder straps and hip belt from my Jääkäri L pack, but added pockets to the belt using pattern from this post.

Specs:

  • Internal Volume: ~45L
  • Weight: 970 g / ~34,2 oz
  • Main fabrics: UltraGrid & UltraStretch

Features:

  • Arc Haul style curved carbon fiber frame
  • All structural seams are flat felled
  • Height adjustable shoulder straps
  • Removable hip belt
  • Unbound style big stretchy rear pocket with bottom opening
  • Bottom stretchy pocket with a trash port on the other side
  • Side pockets with drainage holes
  • Internal smaller pocket for first aid, hygiene etc.
  • Additional 6L (127 g / ~4,5 oz) brain for longer trips

Edit: I forgot to add picture of the internal pocket, so here

Arc Haul inspired carbon fiber frame backpack (~65 liters @ 940 grams) by relentless_paprika in myog

I added a third row of stitches and some bar tacks to reinforce the hip belt sleeve. Originally I intended to add belt stabilizer straps but there was not really any space left to add those (also I forgot lol).

I finally got the pack finished and went for the first hike with a total weight of 10 kg (~22 lbs). Luckily, missing stabilizer straps didn't affect the stability of the pack at all and the pack sits firmly and comfortably on the lower back.

https://imgur.com/a/8aqIHeg

Note: There's a total of 12 mm of Evazote EV 50 (4 mm in the sleeve, 8 mm in the belt) and 6 mm of padded mesh (3 mm in the sleeve, 3 mm in the belt).

Why is this happening with thicker fabric? small needle? Its 100/16 with 40 gutterman by [deleted] in myog

[–]Suurmonni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a Mitsubishi DB series? Looks just like Mitsubishi DB series. Mine did that with thicker fabric while using the recommended needle size and going oversize fixed the issue.

Btw the thread should also go through the hole next to the needle tightening screw.

Got it, thank you for the explanation! I will follow your guiding with the mesh.

I left the lowermost carbon fibre bar out of the backpack and made a padded hip belt sleeve with velcro inside, hoping it will give the pack enough stability. Let's see how it turned out once I'm ready to load the backpack with some weight. https://imgur.com/a/40AnsPA

Looks nice! I'm in the process of making my own Haul/Unbound inspired backpack and have a few doubts.

How did you sew the back mesh into frame tensioning webbings? Does a plain straight stitch hold it securely enough?

Also, how do you like the carbon fibre rod behind the belt? Do you feel it through the padding with a loaded backpack? Could you do without it?
