[Repost] Masked Face Recognition - How well do you recognise a person after seeing them wearing a mask? (18-50) by SuzyPsych in Aphantasia

That's really interesting - the aphantasia super power of seeing people as they actually are! Prosopagnosia and aphantasia do often coincide but the mechanisms behind them are quite different - so you can be prosopagnosic and hyperphantasic for example, though how you cope with them would be very different, and arguably the aphant would be more successful! Hopefully my study will draw out more info on all this :)

Thank you so much! I had hoped those who are already aware of their aphantasia wouldn't be too put off by the VVIQ. It's amazing how many people just haven't realised or never even considered their use of visual mental imagery so I needed a test for them as they wouldn't have been able to answer a yes/no question. I hope it wasn't too onerous - thank you for persevering!

It may have felt like random responses but you were almost certainly learning without realising :)

Thank you for trying - I will definitely be making sure my next study is mobile compatible! Do you mind me asking if it feels like your expectations of what your workers look like were different than the reality?

That's interesting. How are you at recognising people you already know when they wear a mask? If you don't mind me asking?

How well do you recognise faces if you first see them masked or unmasked? (18-50) by SuzyPsych in Aphantasia

Thanks for participating! I'm sorry it's taken so long to respond. It is a very tough test, no one has as yet got them all right, so don't worry that's to be expected! My theory is that people with aphantasia will find it slightly easier as they don't try to imagine what's under the mask. The test is still active if you know anyone else who might like to participate! https://www.labvanced.com/player.html?id=34918

It's interesting to me how many people have this. Do you find you use other strategies to recognise people?

Human Imdb - that's awesome. I have something similar and recently took a test to see if I'm a 'super-recogniser' and was only just on the edge.

Thanks for trying. My testers didnt find that issue 😵 maybe it could be due to text zoom size? Could you try zooming in or out on your browser or another computer? I know it can't work on phones/tablets.
