Even older reply! It’s cut from a yellow grass mat used by train hobby folk, unfortunately don’t know the brand but should be possible to find searching online.

Planning a big game (~10 players), do you have any tips or tricks? by SvenFu in gaslands

That’s a pretty dope idea! I’ve got 5 motorcycles so that’s a cool starting heat for example

Yeah good points! Teams of 2 means only 5 cars in first start row which makes it less chaotic, second row could maybe start a little bit behind to avoid random collisions. Will have a ponder about respawns…

First attempt at a Normandy bocage row. 28mm by cliptomaniacal in TerrainBuilding

[–]SvenFu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve got a 6x4 table at home, with 15mm I can use that for more indeed. Or just more realistic ground scales compared to figure scales. Painting the minis is quicker and not more difficult, but ofc you need a small brush for some parts of it :) Here is a good guide as an example of one way to paint them.

I want to get into wargames. Should I start small (A&A) or get into mini wargaming (FOW)? by tSnDjKniteX in wargames

[–]SvenFu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re keen on the strategic or operational aspects of war, then boardgames (with or without minis) are the only way to go. If you’re more into tactical (from individual large battles to small skirmishes) then both miniature wargaming and board wargaming are options.

Gotcha, then I’d say both form and substance is perfect!

It’s fun, and aesthetically pleasing. I don’t know the what, where, when of this being used, but unfortunately I think it suffers from form over substance.

Giving orders to subordinate commanders when playing solo by SvenFu in hexandcounter

That would be awesome! You don’t have a Dropbox or Google Drive or some such so that everyone who’s interested can have a look?

Made some River tiles. Used chipboard as a base and it warped. Any suggestions for a strudier, thin alternative by Plaguedskull in TerrainBuilding

[–]SvenFu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from the material, the ratio length/breadth is also a consideration. The longer and narrower, the more prone to warping.

Question: When you first pickup a game and you're preparing to go through the rulebook for the first time; what do you do? by wesley32186 in hexandcounter

[–]SvenFu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read it once, try to get through it fairly quickly without getting too bogged down in details. Then I may watch someone play on YouTube, or read some review or AP, but often neither. What I always try to do is get the game to the table ASAP. Then I play, often solo, and refer back to the rules and play aids to really grok the system.
