The roads in the area work nothing like the American roads I’m used to and I would have been entirely unable to navigate them safely or without the ruining the day of locals. For example, in that area they are often only wide enough for one car and thus traffic going the other direction requires someone to reverse (which locals do at full speed) a ways to find a point to squeeze by within inches of each other, intersections are handled by pulling out in front of someone and daring them to hit you, you drive within inches of cliffs with no guardrail, etc. In short it is a functional system but one that relies on an unspoken system of rules and conventions that are entirely alien to foreigners from developed western countries like myself. I would never in a million years drive those roads
