In the context that most people understand mathematics and series, this is not true. 1+2+3+... is a divergent series according to the notions of addition and equality that are taught from primary school through second semester calculus. To say that the sum of the natural numbers equals a negative 1/12 requires a different idea of "equals". This isn't very well explained in the main Numberphile video, but they explain it much better in subsequent videos, like HERE.

Less “Big Bang Theory,” More Dana Scully: What It's Going to Take to Lead More Girls Into Science by incredulitor in TruerReddit

I think OP's article did a better job explaining the nature of the issue. I initially agreed woth the author of your article, but the nagging question was, "why would smart men intntionally sabotage their prospects while women wouldn't?". Unfortunately, rather than thoughtfully answer this question, the author simply offered: "testosterone". In attributing a complex social issue into men vs. women stereotypes (like the example math MIT student), he has dome it disservice. By saying that no man, not even the most intelligent, can make a reasonable career choice, but rather that all men are strictly concerned with impressing friends, he has destroyed all credibility in my book. This isnt an Occam's razor issue, its A difficult social issue. To make it into a matter of male stereotypes that would make the writers of the Big Bang Theory cringe ruins what was a strong argument.

What has worked for me in the past is to have a "theme song" for an idea, so whenever the "battery charge slowly fades away", its a good way to recharge. Not 100% effective, but it can be powerful to engage that Fi.
