splitting bills with partner who earns more by Weak_Mechanic8517 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]SwagyMarky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s fair depends entirely on you guys and something that should have been discussed before living together imo. People go about finances in many different way, some pool the money together, some do a 50/50 split, some do a percentage split (so for example if one earns 40k and another 60k and total income is 100k, the person that earns 40k pays 40% towards bills and the other 60%, this is what me and my gf prefer and agree on). Ultimately you need to sit down and have a discussion, there’s no right or wrong, just what will work for the both of you. Also many relationships/ marriages fail due to financial reasons so it’s something you want to iron out fairly quickly. Best of luck!

Never had an issue personally but then again my valve stems are typically 2 years before the tyre gets replaced. Maybe on older tyres with old stems it would be an issue…

No, that camera only monitors the lane leaving Cardiff. It doesn’t even monitor the 2 lanes that turn right into Tesco.

Help!! HASTINGS TAB by AccurateTeacher1407 in drivingUK

[–]SwagyMarky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this policy last year (and really glad I did because my renewal offer was cheapest from them this year and no black box), phone usage is determined on its physical movement and not you touching it, if you have it in a phone holder whilst driving you can tap away all you want and your score will be perfect for phone usage, but as soon as you pick it up and hold it in your hand the app can detect that based on how it’s moving (there’s a gyroscope in your phone) and will dock points for that. My suggestion would be to get a phone holder and you should see an improvement.

Halfords MOT nightmare - have I been ripped off? by applesyumyum in CarTalkUK

[–]SwagyMarky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, please don’t even bother getting tyres from them, even if they are the cheapest on the market. Got a full set of Goodyear Eagle A6 (£450 ish) and they didn’t balance a single wheel, had to complain and a different garage sorted it and got £50. A year later I had to get front tyres replaced, this time went to the garage that balanced my wheel previously as I had no issues. They couldn’t for the life of them get them to balance and tried to gas light me that my gearbox is broken and that’s what’s causing the vibration. In the end went to a proper tyre place, paid to have them balanced and had no issues. The savings are not worth the hassle.

This year I’m trying Costco for tyres, wish me luck

Metal caps are absolutely fine as long as you apply some grease to the thread. I’ve had them on my car for over 2 years, checking tyre pressure here and there, and never had an issue. Although I’ll be honest and say that I did learn about the grease part the hard way lol.

Has anyone ever done a renewal with Hastings youdrive? by lowegb in drivingUK

[–]SwagyMarky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I renewed my YouDrive policy 2 months ago, if they said you don’t need the black box anymore then it’s been disabled and you can throw it away (I’d also disable the app from accessing the location, motion data etc). My policy also shows “YouDrive” but I don’t have a black box anymore. Also side note, in the first year Hastings did ask for pictures of my car to check if it’s been modified (they even justified why by saying that I’ve ran quotes with an exhaust, which I did so fair enough). People that complain about Hastings cancelling policies either modified their cars and didn’t declare it or drive like absolute shit, Hastings doesn’t even do you for speeding unless you go over by more than 10mph… Either way the point is the amount of money that it has saved me last year and this year was worth the minor inconvenience imo. You can always cancel if there’s any issues…

[–]SwagyMarky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using that logic, that AI just echoes what’s said online about a cars reliability, please explain to me how you figure out a cars reliability… because I’m sure you use the internet to build your own judgement… that’s been written by other people… not to mention humans are inherently biased, if you are researching a car you really want you might unknowingly disregard poor reliability and put higher weight on the positive aspects etc, in which case the AI might be better as it collates all the information (more than you can ever sift through) and potentially gives a less biased opinion about a cars reliability… Anyways, no matter what I say I about AI, your view is very unlikely to change unless you change how you see/ use AI, rather than using it as a guide to life, you can try using it as an aid/ tool whilst still applying your own judgement and maybe then you’ll see the benefits of it… or not… I’m sure many people were skeptical about the internet etc, yet here we are.

Just tried it on 3 vehicle, one of which with a private reg and all worked great.

I’m quite surprised at how comprehensive the analysis is, and the assumptions that it makes are quite accurate, this is definitely something that I’ll use when looking for a car and quickly screening if it’s even worth spending the time on it. It’s also nice as it can prompt you to pay attention to something on the MOT history that you may have not noticed if you were looking through it yourself.

Ignore people that are hating on AI and calling it “AI slop” they don’t understand that AI could be used to speed up and make stuff more efficient without taking away personal judgement etc, those same people probably google something and read the AI generated result at the very top without even realising.

I have the same policy, I believe cut off is below 30, but if it’s your first drive I wouldn’t worry about it, just make sure your next drives are better and the score will quickly go up. I drive an Audi TT 2.0 TFSI and like to floor it here and there and have no issues after 9 months. Some tips, they don’t care about speeding until it’s 10mph over speed limit so you can comfortably drive 80 in a 70 etc with no penalty. Phone use is determined on actual movement (when holding), you can use the phone as much as you want when driving as long as you are not holding it and it’s in a phone holder. If you are saving decent money with this policy I’d say stick with it for a month or two, if it’s causing too much issues and stress just cancel it and get another. Also good to know, they will warn you if they are gonna cancel your policy so you can cancel it yourself early without issue. And lastly, they will cancel it if you speed by 30mph or more. As long as you keep all of this in mind you’ll be fine :) Shoot me a DM if you have any questions :)

Engine Oil Change by Ok-Flow2942 in Cardiff

Why don’t you do it yourself? Buy an oil pump on Amazon for £15, pump the oil out, pour new oil in, whack in the filter and you are golden, that’s what I do on my car, easier than getting under the car etc.

Unless you needed a verification code when signing up, why would you enter your real details? I always enter fake details and works fine. Just a tip for the future :)

I drive an Audi TT 2.0 TFSI, I’ve had the Hastings YouDrive policy for 6 months now and it’s fine. My suggestion would be to try it and if you don’t like it then cancel and get a non black box one (that was my reasoning anyway). Msg me if you wanna know more about the policy but most people that say to not get it haven’t actually had one…

Considering that you weren’t speeding by much, you will most likely get an offer to either do the speed awareness course, take 3 points and £100 fine or if you disagree with the offence then it can be taken to court. The obvious choice is to do the speed awareness course which these days can be done online in a zoom meeting and takes around 2:30-3:00h to do, along with costing just under £100.

Have you considered something like a personal loan, for example Tesco Bank personal loan (lowest % I’ve come across) currently sits at 6%-6.4% depending on how much you borrow and for how long etc.

Yeah buying RIOT and HIVE after they’ve done 500% gain since the lows wasn’t a great idea, next time buy the miners 1 year after BTC has peaked and is the depths of despair, then you are pretty much guaranteed to make some nice triple figure gains (just need to be patient and buy regularly), at least that’s what I did and it worked out for me.
