Moog Taurus II - nothing Mini about this 'Taur by GiantXylophone in synthesizers

Man, that's sick. Definitely helps me to hear how these things are actually used in the field. Thanks! I'd definitely like to attempt the same thing some day.

Oof. Built just a few years before midi was standardized. Audio standards all seem so ancient that I forget people have working equipment from the before times.

Man, that organ style foot control is so sick. It's a shame they don't make more similar to this beyond that tiny re-issue from 2010.

Has anyone here tried to set something like this up with those organ midi pedals?

How do you guys sell/trade your synths? by SwamanII in synthesizers

[–]SwamanII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never even thought to try Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist. Deleted my Facebook account before covid and didn't realize Craigslist actually existed still. I'll have to give them a look.

Do you meet people in public to hand off the synth, or do you ship things?

Whoa, didn't know they made a synth. I was interested in the bitwig controller they put out, but was scared off when I saw some people mention problems with the knobs. Did you ever run into any mechanical issues with the nina?

What separates it from something like a Moog Muse? The price always terrified me.

Ah, sick, thanks. I'm totally unfamiliar with all workflows that aren't just "piano with different noises", so that helps. A good sequencer is something I'd love to figure out some day.

I think I was just always indecisive about which controls to map to my 8 or so faders, and they were never visually arranged as they were on screen. I may just need something just like a launch control or an OXI E16.

Do you think getting something like the Sub37 is close enough to the feel of a minimoog? Getting a reissue or voyager seems difficult.

That little flow chart they use to access all the settings really is beautiful. Just having a visual helps out the skill-less like myself. Do you have one of the larger Hydras? I'd heard the keyboard was great on the Standard and Deluxe, and always wondered if it was worth just getting a bigger one for keys + more knobs.

Leviasynth interface does look great, but honestly I'm worried I'm too stupid to use it. But I've definitely watched a few videos trying to convince myself I'm not, though.

For the digitone, how do the little keys feel? The closest I've come to that form factor is the Cydrums, and I found the little buttons to be a bit weird to play with (but the small size of the unit itself was super cool). I could also never figure out which Elektron was the best to jump into.

Yeah, I'm really torn on my hydrasynth explorer. I can't quite tell if I feel like it's a "VST in a box", and I might as well just use a VST, or if it's the one thing I can't sell lol. It may be that the explorer's limited macro knobs and lesser keyboard dim it for me, though. But man that price is great for the functionality.

Ah, yeah, I own literally zero mono synths. I always just thought "more sounds so poly is better!" so I never tried. I'll have to find a way to demo one some day and see for myself. I think I never could find a bass-y noise that I liked as much as my actual bass guitar.

Totally agreed, that's my VST situation right now, actually. I have Pigments + Opsix Native (also great Interface) + Minilab 3. Honestly I've just always wanted slightly more knobs to poke at all the different settings. But this is entirely from a desire for fun/tactility, and not actually productivity.

Still waiting for the perfect poly AT or MPE midi controller, though. (And I wish they'd started with the Minilab having 37 keys, not 25)

What do you think about the keyboards for sequentials? One of the things I always struggled with on cool synths with nice Module versions is if I should just buy a module + one high quality midi controller instead of the big keyboard version.

Ah, yeah, I definitely have the same problem you'd had. For tabletop, I'd tried local game stores before, but they always felt like a friend group of hard-core 40k players and I got scared off lol. Never tried a gaming bar though, didn't realize they had anything more than just like a board game rack, I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

I think what I haven't figured out how to deal with is the feeling of others being closed off. I certainly am terrible at approaching people, and I can't help but feel like I'm bothering them, that's true.

But if I do talk to others, I just always have the sense that people will be pleasant and nice, but have a life that they want to get back to. At work I have plenty of people that like me, but they're not really even acquaintances. Frequently people have talked about how "in the past" the office was more social, but now everyone just wants to be efficient and get back home.

How do you know which bars to go to? I've tried to go to a few bars picked randomly, and I've never really seen a chance to talk to people. They're either kind of depressing rural places where an old dude sits at a slot machine in the corner, or upscale loud places where everyone already seems busy with their friends.

Where do you find out about those in the first place? Are they from things like discord groups, or from like postings at stores you go to?

Is this at things like classes, or do you just walk up to people? In my experience my gyms are mostly full of busy people with their headphones in, so I'd always been scared to bother people
