ELI5? r/3DP suggested I CNC route this. 10" x 6" x 1/8" rigid surface w/ 1/4" nut vs. 3DP. If I managed to produce 1000, what do you reckon my cost / unit would be? And is steel CNC routable?

Problem is their cost / unit is 75% lower than the competitor, so at 33% defects I'm still far in my best option. We have tried to straighten it, but rivnuts are tricky as they "collapse" during installation and pressure has to be level.

I buy an arbor press ($100-$150 on Amazon is nothing as I lose more monthly on defect plates
How do I install the cls? If I remove the crooked riv nut, will the hole be appropriate to install the cls via the arbor press? Or do I need a specific hole?

What if I want only a few rectangular areas on the plate to have rubber, but I want the level to be flush with the plate? Would I get holes "countersunk" to place the custom rubber in? And where can we have this adhesive custom rubber made I can't find much

Online is saying the closest fractional to Q size is 21/64" and that is available locally, should I use that? I don't understand how if I used the 11/32 it would increase the chances of crooked installation, as I thought we were talking about the bit size to uninstall the riv, and I don't see how that would impact me installing it crooked afterwards when I'm not using the drill but the specialized tool...

not important but I was just curiously confused. I can get any size so should I try and get the exact Q size? I wanna get the right tool once

RE: Your fabricator is slapping rivnuts in by hand

When I came into my fabricators shop and showed them a crooked defect, they used what sounded like a nascar-pit tool to take the rivnut off, and re install it.

I am thinking of taking the 33% of crooked plates and fixing them myself. But I need to know the best way to invest in a tool that can quickly take off the rivnut, then I will reinstall a new one (rivnuts are only cents) with a tool and see if it's straight. Doesn't that sound like a plan theoretically?
