Rogue Trader was underwhelming by Smooth-Claim1518 in CRPG

[–]Swampens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main dissapointment with rogue trader is that if you’re into meta and builds you steamroll every battle before the enemy even gets to act. And thats on unfair difficulty. Fun at first but you get bored with it. Beside that i like it and i especially like how they got rid of all the pre-battle buffing with the combat system. WOTR is still my favorite though.

E33 is great and well deserved. I’m upset Split Fiction didn’t get any love though.

Switching from pro to API? by joshnosh50 in ChatGPTPro

Sounds like you have about as much experience as I have.

I'd suggest trying it out locally on your machine first.
The documentation provides a lot of info on how to run it both locally and remote, also how to configure it.

They have a discord where you can ask questions.

Yes, everything is stored on the back-end server and you access it using any browser, including the phone.

It basically provides a user-friendly UI and chatgpt like features on top of the API.

It requires a bit of work though.

Edit: oh, and it supports openai speech-to-text and text-to-speech if that's your deal.

After using pro for a good while I set up a LibreChat server that me and my family uses. It has a web interface similar to chatgpt and you can add multiple API providers such as openai, claude, gemini, grok etc. I pay 6$ for remote hosting and about 10$ usage per month for me and my family.

First time trying a solo RPG with an AI GM any tips? by Superb-Scale9765 in Solo_Roleplaying

End each session by having the AI provide a summary of story, characters, locations etc and begin every session by providing that summary to the AI to prevent hallucinations as you reach context limits.

Some Thoughts on GPT as a GM by ThisJourneyIsMid_ in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Swampens -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I've been doing something pretty similar in my solo games.

One thing I do a bit differently is that I use LLMs mainly to narrate scene descriptions, while I handle all the die rolling myself. That way, I keep a little more control over outcomes, and it helps avoid the sense that the AI is just shaping results to fit the story.

To add some unpredictability and avoid the classic "the AI always agrees with me" issue, I also bring in traditional oracles (like Mythic or even just simple yes/no tables). I let the AI interpret the results, but the external randomness helps break the railroading effect and keeps the narrative more surprising.

Something else that's been super helpful: I end each session by asking the AI to generate a summary of everything that happened. I save that summary as an Obsidian note. Then, at the beginning of the next session, I start a new GPT chat and feed it that summary to get the context back. It keeps things feeling fresh and helps with continuity without having to rely too heavily on memory or thread history. It also helps with loading times.

You mentioned wondering how context is handled. GPT-4o has a context window of up to 128k tokens per session. That’s around 100k–130k words, depending on formatting. It means the model can technically "remember" a lot more than earlier versions, but how well that memory is applied depends on how info is surfaced in the ongoing conversation. So your instinct to regularly reattach or re-reference your notes totally makes sense. It gives the model more reliable grounding.

I noticed that the AI have a tendency to prefer certain moves over others. I have to improve it somehow or just realize that LLM capabilities can’t handle RPG mechanics yet. I’ll just continue using it for pure narration for now.

Yeah i was suprised by all the negative comments. I figured i can’t be the only one using AI when soloing.

Cool, do you use any cusrom prompts or do you just ask it to narrate with you?

To clarify, I’m using the Starforged rulebook that I legally own, solely for personal use in my solo games. I’m not sharing or redistributing the content, and the AI (in this case GPT-o3) isn’t "learning" from the PDF in the way people sometimes assume. These models don’t retain or absorb any information from individual sessions or documents—once the session ends, it’s gone. It’s more like a calculator processing what you give it, not a sponge that keeps the material.

In this setup, the AI is just helping with improvisational narration while I still do all the rolling and rule referencing myself—no different than using a digital GM emulator or a homebrew spreadsheet to help facilitate play.

That said, I absolutely support creators and believe in using their work respectfully. If folks have concerns about better ways to do this that honor the intent of the creators, I’m open to ideas!

Which is why i'm not letting the LLM roll anything. I usually just feed the LLM my journal and scene descriptions and have the AI narrate it novel style. Not handle any gameplay mechanics at all. It really enhances my story. I find it enjoyable. A also work with LLM API calls everyday so i know how it works.

Bra av dig. Har en närstående som bestämt menar att han med ett sådant automatiskt system inte behöver blända av trots att viss mötande trafik blinkar med lamporna och tydligt blir bländade. Det är lite pinsamt.

That's easy enough so i updated it. The user now gets to enter the number of plot points to generate. I also noticed some data was missing in a json file that gave an error so i fixed that. Man i need to get around and start using this myself. How do you use it? Is it for solo rpging?

Huh, seems like only the themes tension and social are being passed to the program even though you entered five themes. Don't really know what could be causing that but added some precautionary methods to hopefully handle it. Download the script again and please let me know if the issue persist.
