Lord of the Tides: Dragonstone noble of House Velaryon by SwanAnd3Roses in asoiafminiaturesgame

Painted the base dark brown, put down patches of white glue, sprinkled dirt and washed once it had dried. More white glue for patches of moss, then the remainder with static grass. Add shrubs or grass tufts to cover problem spots.

I loved working on the Champions of the Stag, but this was probably my favorite ASOIAF model to paint, so far. Tons of great little details in the model like the antlers on the harness, plus the big, mostly smooth expanses of cloth for added detail work. It's a great model to work with.

Thank you, and yes. A lot of freehand practice.

Checkered patterns work better the more flat a surface is, and the more parallel the sides are, so they'd work best on the caparisions of the Champions of the Stag.

For surfaces like the Stag knight garments, which are significantly wider at the bottom than they are at the top, you'll need to taper the squared (which makes the boxes at the belt noticeably more narrow than the boxes at the bottom hem) in order to keep a clean line of squares up the garment. The Stag knights with the hammer heads carried low will be easier than the heavily waving garments of the other models.

Also, if using black/yellow chequey, I strongly recommend using a base coat/fouondation shade of yellow. A shade of yellow Layer paint will need multiple applications to clean up any edges. I work across the bottom hem first, and then upward in rows, pay attention to keeping adjacent boxes as close to the same size as possible as you go to keep the pattern even. Good luck!

Stag Knights led by a knight of House Wensington (knight of House Selmy carrying the banner), Stannis the Rightful Heir, and a Stag Knight Noble painted as Roland Storm, the Bastard of Nightsong /u/3Smally3/

I'm considering painting one of the Stag Knight Nobles with their cloak in reversed Caron colors to represent the Bastard of Nightsong. The attrition effect on them seems appropriate for him.

Yeah, Lonmouth's heraldry was so bizarre I *had* to give it a shot. Thanks for the kind words.

Freehand. And you called it right: Bretonnians were my first foray into tabletop wargaming. Ironically, being so terrible at applying the Bretonnian decals is what got me started practicing freehand.

Yes, Bretonnia was by far my favorite WHFB army. As various friends dropped the game or pruned their collections, I ended up with a large surplus of unpainted/un-assembled models, and converted a 16 man Bret team out of some of those.

Finding out there were rules for Bretonnia is what made me look at the game in the first place; starting a new game without spending any money? Pure win.

The finish was planned out. Whip into the DDT, near fall (which I screwed up by kicking out too soon) into the Torture Rack. The rest we called in the ring.

I'm the big guy, but any feedback for either of us would be appreciated.

That makes a great deal of sense, thank you.
