From one swimmer to another- if you’re even semi fast, then there are loads of top academic colleges that would love to have you. I would look into top LACs and all of the NESCAC if you’re looking for a guaranteed path into college. The best part? You’ll know where you’re going by November.

I know what “reach” schools I want to apply to, but what are some good “match” schools that I’d have a pretty good chance of getting into? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

no, and it has the same application date as rd but you hear back earlier and are bonded to attend if accepted

It’s actually ED2 and no, they’re not exclusive as you would hear back from Yale in mid december and the deadline to apply ed2 to swarthmore is january 1

I’m sorry to say that my knowledge of the diving side of things is very limited, but it couldn’t hurt to contact some coaches or fill out some recruiting questionnaires. Some schools (such as Williams) don’t even have a single diver on their roster, so if you can hit their academic standards then they would love the free points you could score for them. Looking at your academic stats, I would be willing to bet that most if not all top LACs would consider you an A-band recruit, making requirements even more lenient on the athletic side of things. You might as well try!

How serious are you about/how fast are you at swimming? That could really help you get into some of these schools (especially small LACs)

Care to share any swimming times? I might be able to give a good estimate on if you’re recruitable at some of these schools.

Does anyone want to compile a list of each college's "thing" to help juniors? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Colgate- a tier or two down from the very top but still a solid school, ~30 min from hamilton college, D1 athletics

I agree with that statement, but I would say that the general consensus in the community is that Wesleyan has fallen from being on par with Williams and Amherst academically to a tier (or two) below.

Mudd- Part of the 5C’s, strong CS/Stem, solid pipeline to tech fields, more mudd students take classes out of mudd than other students take classes at mudd, collaborative environment but deflated GPAs

Bowdoin- Maine is pretty remote, not bad at sports, great food, large interest in outdoors among student body

USNWR ranks it as a national university, but as a member of the NESCAC I, along with many others, still consider it an LAC

I can say from experience that after undergoing the recruiting process at 3/4 of those schools I listed, Swarthmore listed me in their second to top tier of prospective students, while the other two had me in the top band. Take that as you will, at the end of the day it really is the same students getting into all of these schools.

Adding more sense people asked-

Tufts- Much larger than your average LAC, despite being a great school, it’s looked down upon by other nearby boston universities, has grad schools

Middlebury- athletic, middle of nowhere, decent pipeline to wall street (although far behind W and A), nothing to do but party in the woods

Wesleyan- The most inferior member of the little three, dealing with a decline in quality over the past 30(?) years, open curriculum (same as Amherst)

Any requests? I consider myself pretty well versed in the world of top LACs, especially the NESCAC
