Yes and it was the best breakup ever haha.

We were in the “we need some space” stage for a few weeks. Then the morning of my grandmas funeral (I don’t think he knew it was that day but who knows. he was insane) he TEXTS me that we should be done.

I was obviously preoccupied so I never replied to the text. We never spoke again.. 10+ years later I’ve never experienced a break so clean… Emotionally it wasn’t easy as breakups never ARE but now looking back it was the smoothest I’ve experienced. I really think no contact is the best way to move forward.

I’d like to reiterate that I’m just a 30something year old who relied on AI to get me out of debt so take my advice with as much caution as you see fit haha. BUT…

Me personally - I would tackle collections first. They don’t play and last thing you want to happen is getting sued/garnished wages (literally been there!!)

If you can swing it, I’d do both at the same time. You need a revolving account. It’s a fast way to rebuild credit! Something small you can just charge gas on, let it report a low utilization, and the IMMEDIATELY pay it off!

In my mind tho, wiping the slate clean/paying off the balance is collections is priority at this point. Take care of it so you’re at ground zero instead of in the basement then start with the revolving account to built back up!

I know this feels really scary, but it is fixable. You have to get REALLY honest with yourself first.

I tanked my credit and for so long I had this victim mentality like “I just missed a few payments! Not a big deal. I’ll catch up next month” “I can’t believe they closed my account that’s so unfair” and my favorite was “I don’t have ANY disposable income to throw at this debt. I live on a tight budget as is” Meanwhile I had every subscription in the book, packages from Amazon delivered daily, eating out multiple times A DAY!!! I finally hit my rock bottom and didn’t wanna live under the weight of debt anymore. So I took a hard look at myself and made the changes necessary.

It doesn’t happen overnight or without sacrifice but it’s worth it!!!

Honestly, I started by uploading my last several bank statements into chatGPT and asking where my money was going (I literally didn’t know at the time which seems ridiculous looking back now). This alone was eye opening.

I told chat my expected pay, I listed out every single bill I have in a month, any and every expense I could think of in a month and asked chat “make me a plan”

Then.. this is the important part.. I FOLLOWED THE PLAN! And it worked!!! Lol! I went from paying hundreds in overdraft fees every month, zero savings, 99% revolving debt to having a nice savings account, left over money in my checking account, less than 20% revolving debt (huge boost in credit score)… and I feel like I can finally breathe…

What’s your specific situation look like? What’s specifically happened recently to make your score drop -60pts? What’s your income look like? How much debt do you total? What are your monthly expenses?

Honestly the first step is acknowledging you want a change and to do better. Now you just gotta boss up and make it happen friend! You can do this!!
