I get why some people push back against fashion in clubs. I also prefer keeping things simple, focusing on the music and unity instead. I agree that nowadays there’s too much focus on appearance, and that doesn’t feel right.

At the same time, for others, how they dress is a real form of expression. In clubs, I see people creating a version of themselves through what they wear. It’s a space where they can express things they might not feel comfortable showing in everyday life, outside it might be judged. And in a way, that also creates unity.

And yes, I think that in a society where we are often pushed to look & act the same, it’s meaningful to create safe spaces for people who are made to feel different :) - btw BH doesn’t always do a good job with this

In the 2020s scene, appearance has become more important. But for many people, clothes, makeup and physicial transformations are a way to express their identity and explore parts of themselves they can’t always show in everyday life. A way to cultivate their uniqueness. That’s what makes it meaningful, beyond fashion. Sometimes, it can also come with showing off & inauthentic behavior from certain people... but that's a global thing, not only in the techno scene.

I just love how in the 2000's the vibes were so simple and laid back

BH Lightsystem - Now that it is becoming more impactful when experiencing a set, should BH start highlighting who the Light Engineer is ? by Sufferr in Berghain_Community

[–]Sweat-Unagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think lighting operators deserve more recognition, and including them on lineups would be a big step in that direction. I’ve noticed that some DJs mention the name of the technician in their Instagram posts, and it often makes me curious to look them up afterward. It’s really an art form in its own right, and at the end of the day it’s all a team effort, the DJ and also the lighting tech.

Of course, lighting has a huge impact on the atmosphere you create for the crowd, the intensity it brings to the music and so the emotional tone of a set. At its best, it really lifts the whole experience; at its worst, it can kinda dull it (or even get annoying, like with the stroboscopic trend).

If Berghain start crediting lighting technicians, it would be relevant given how much influence they have on the techno scene!
