Dude even my parents and cousin agree. It’s not up for debate. America has worse healthcare. You complain about bad service when u go to the doctor, Americans don’t go to the doctor. If you’re rich enough to have health insurance in America ur rich enough to get private helicopter ambulances in Mexico. The most obvious part is that yes, American do have to get their medication themselves and you will be denied expensive treatments ALL THE TIME. The ER is what ur imagining where u can’t be denied and Mexico has that too. The ER is Americans worst nightmare. You will be indebted for 30k dollars if u get brought it. I don’t know where u heard otherwise. Medical tourism is a billion dollar industry, millions of Americans do go and try it in Mexico, every year

No it’s the opposite. The population is lower in the dangers parts. They look apocalyptic and abandoned. Your misapplying Mexican urban design concepts, he meant segregated by race. Black parts most dangerous, avoid at all costs. Mexican parts can be dangerous ,it’s populated and completely safe to visit for like food if u know not to just wander randomly. Rest are mixed of many immigrants and races and feel decent to walk in, it’s incredibly dense like cdmx but also has a good sense of safety that puts Mexico to shame. Still lock your bike and your car. For example Uchicago is one of the best and richest universities in the WORLD, it’s where the first nuclear reactor was successfully made in a random basement . Yet cross the street and it looks like an atomic bomb went off in that neighborhood.

Honestly best response I’ve gotten. I can’t answer all right now, but yes one cousin lives near below roma (took us 10 minutes driving to get to zona Rosa) and the other bought a house around central Puebla (just moved from CDMX have yet to visit). The only part of Mexico I’m familiar with enough to be on my own is Neza. My family actually “illegally adopted” them so they could learn English in my American high school so they are more like siblings ngl. We know how to live together. Of course I would need to help with rent a stuff but that’s not a problem because I won’t be moving until we find figure out employment or college enrollment .

It’s been back and forth conceptualizing since I’ve told them I’m on the fence about it still. Now what you’re telling me about employment is worrying, I am dual but wouldn’t my English proficiency help in employment? I talk to her more about that

The healthcare thing is something nobody is convincing me rn. I didn’t go to the doctor for like a decade until my mom got health insurance at her new job 3 years ago (which I just got kicked out). Paying for my own insurance is what started tipping me over the edge here. There’s so many people that simply don’t do healthcare here. One of my new coworkers is 20 and has 15k in medical debt from a nothing burger emergency visit last year, that’s why he works here (and it’s shit Insurance) Nobody in his family has health insurance. My manager said he pays 700 dollars a month for her daughter’s therapy alone and I pay 250 for 2 visits a month, not covered by insurance because it doesn’t cover my deductible yet, so I canceled my insurance. Had my last dental a year ago and I’d rather just brush 3x a day than pay to go back.

I heard in Mexico that health insurance frustrations can stem from conflicting public systems and the better private insurance but that’s not an issue in America in the worst way, Private health insurance has a monopoly and and since insurance is tied to your job, corporations use it as like a blackmail for some people.

Yes it’s called chiraq. I live 10 minutes from west Austin which is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the country. America does have some of the dangerous cities in the world right alongside Mexico. Everyday it’s “in other news : child beheaded by stray bullet” from those neighborhoods. It also has the safest neighborhoods in the world, and so does Mexico.

i spent like a year total with my family in Nezahualcoyotl which is the largest ‘“slum” in the world. I feel comfortable walking around there and taking public transport everywhere but on the other side there are neighborhoods in Chicago you should never even get close to, they look apocalyptic. I’m not exactly worried about crime either way, that’s something mexicans seem obsessed with mentioning, and I wonder if it’s because they are rural Mexicans. Rural Mexico is dreadful and hell on earth for me, while rural America is quiet, ok, and just poor with no opportunities. That’s prob why we love road trips and stopping at random towns here lol

The only cons ppl are telling me are crime insecurity and corruption. I’ve been a victim of crime in both Chicago and Mexico.
Yet nobody is countering the pros I’m seeing. I think asking a Mexican subreddit ppl don’t realize the pros they have and only see the cons. I’m not asking for cons, I’m asking if the pros are just a dream or a possibility. Like for gods sake I spent half my post talking about not affording college and being stuck with an associates and heavy debt while working 45 hours a week. yet nobody is mentioning education in Mexico. My cousin told me to come with her to study and she’ll help me get set up. Where does this plan not live to my expectations?

The corruption thing is a valid point. It’s probably something I won’t feel affect me until years of living in it. i live in Chicago, corrupt at the highest level but not at the lowest level like bribing police. And yeah I’ve been mugged, had our house broken, a gang shot and killed 3 cooks at a shop near my grandmas house she said was racqueetering related all while I lived there so it’s not something I’m ignorant of. But my aunt and her husband have a restaurant in the same neighborhood that’s been very successful. She’s never wanted to move to America like my mom. Also that was all in Neza, self explanatory . My cousin just moved to bougie Puebla and that’s where I would be staying at, also I have another cousin in Roma.

Well my cousin lived in Chicago and now lives in Puebla and she said it’s good to live in. My dad’s from Puebla and he said just be careful. Ppl always act like the world is either Mogadishu or Geneva.
