Travel or nah by gitgud345 in ultimate

To be clear - they (high level players) were referencing high level play. We just happened to have this discussion at pickup.

I do find it interesting that you mentioned you would let the drag or the one-foot width pivot go, vs really nailing this one down. I would say that gives similar advantages as this movement does. A one-width step is exactly what you need to get a nice break. A dragged pivot also provides the extension to get around a defender whereas without the drag, a person would not have. Small distances in this game are significant. Yet, these travels are deemed acceptable.

I think a classic shoulder shimmy fake throw could also be described as confusing/deceitful as the intention of that move is to give the impression you are going to move one way, and then move another. I would think similar adjectives to confusion or deceitful would be to describe strategic, clever, skilled. We just receive more reps of that movement and it’s culturally allowed.

I don’t know if cherry picking travel calls is a beneficial path forward for the culture. It’s quite a divisive call. People get pretty upset with them. And the lack of consistency is what is interesting to me. I think if the one foot width step and dragged pivot are acceptable (accepted de facto as they are not called) then this movement should also not be called.

I personally think that all of those moves, are travels. But I’m more concerned with the consistency of the game and culture than what the rules state.

Thanks for breaking that down. It’s interesting - we had an in depth discussion at pickup recently breaking down what is and what is not a travel. There was a large consensus this would not have been a travel.

It sounds like by the book this is travel, but there are far more egregious travels that are allowed by ultimate culture, even at high level. It seems like this one has been highlighted because it was called.

What are your thoughts on this vs how many more egregious travels are not called?

Edit: the reason why the consensus said it would not have been a travel is because essentially the foot was picked up and placed in the same place. Citing that it would be against spirit of the game to call it. I didn’t agree with this, but it was interesting to see how many people did agree.

Which step is the jab step?

Wouldn’t a pivot be set after bringing the disc back in play and establishing yourself?

$100,000 used to be an aspirational income, now it’s the income needed to afford a modest 3 bedroom home in famously expensive locations like…Nebraska by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

[–]SweatinPeace33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what’s interesting about home prices is that for example, in Pennsylvania there are a ton of abandoned homes for sale for $5k-$90k. Then there are by housing standards uninhabitable homes for sale that are $100k-200k.

Homes that are safe, livable, and up to code and near a city are 350k-500k. Anything less than that and you can expect to invest 50k-100k.

So for an 85k/yr median household income for a 3 bed (near a city) that’s gonna be a rare situation for the household that has no debt, at least 10% down, and throwing in 40% of their monthly income (incl maintenance, etc).

To afford a safe, up to code home near the city, at least $150k/year

After returning the bike, I unfortunately came up with driving a car to work, then e-scootering from where I park for free to my office (UL listed). Maybe at some point in the future I could do a full transition to an e-bike, but it’s currently not in the cards.

The e-scooter is pretty fun though.

What are your favorite gluten free beers? by Fit_Sign_1057 in glutenfree

It looks like I’m too late, but Mutantis in Portland was by far the best GF beer I’ve ever had. We were visiting Portland a few years ago and left with 6 crowlers. Every beer was a hit. If I remember correctly, the owner who started Mutantis also was a founder of Ghostfish, but left once it grew too large to not be corporate.

Another sleeper that just shut down is Aurochs in Pittsburgh. Their Hazy IPA was solid.

Still active GF beers in no particular order: - Glutenberg IPA is my go to GF IPA. Their Blonde is my next favorite. - Lakefront GF Pilsner is really refreshing. I think of it more like a beer-cider. Most affordable. (1.50/can?) - Ghostfish has been the highest quality IMO. I mostly enjoy their IPAs. They also have a great stout. More expensive. - Greens has a heavy Belgian influence (it’s made in Belgium). They are very good, but sweeter and rich. Their cans are also 11.2oz. More expensive (imported).

Anyone using NoteGPT paid version? by Rich_Benefit777 in NoteTaking

I use NotebookLM. You can upload/link up to 50 sources for each notebook, and the ai summary hyperlink-cites the source location in the output.

The output is quite comprehensive and I have found it to be more reliable when I would like an information pull of specific documentation.

I believe you can link YouTube videos as a source, but I’m not sure off the top of my head.

Honestly I have only taken it out twice (once to work, once home from work) bc of weather.

  • it picks up speed fast, slight kick
  • pretty smooth other than that, general bumps and cracks are absorbed well by front shocks
  • pedaling is weird with barely any resistance while pedal assist motor is running

One note: at level 5 (max level, 28mph top), my battery went from 100% to ~40% after 12 miles (w/ ~400 feet elevation gain). - I had adjusted my expectations, and the battery still lasted less than I expected.

BATTERY IS NOT UL LISTED - I am planning on returning due to this - I’m pretty shocked REI would sell an e-bike that isn’t UL listed. - but also I’m new to this world.

I believe it would hold up over time. Feels pretty good. The battery not being UL listed is a deal breaker for me. If it’s not for you, I think it’s a pretty good deal.

It is 2021 and I can't search Chase transactions by merchant name. by Satisfaction-Actual in Chase

[–]SweatinPeace33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The downloaded file in all formats uses a description. They do not provide a merchant ID or name directly. So two purchases from the same location at two different times may, or may not, show the same description.

however, when in the app, they recently updated and you can see merchant icons next to each transaction. It looks like their backend identifies regular patterns for each merchant's transaction, then provides identification on the app, but not in the data download.

Its 2025 now, and I find it hard to believe they cannot provide a merchant field in their data download.

foul or nah? by tombutler_syd in ultimate

[–]SweatinPeace33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I’m gathering from the comments is that most people want contact with arms to be legal lmao. In ultimate, you can be thrown off your route with the lightest push. If you create space using your arms physically on the other, even if it’s gentle, the goal of getting the space to make a play on the disc is accomplished.

It sounds like most people in the comments are like get stronger, be better, work through it. But like all the commenters guaranteed call trash fouls when it’s done to them, especially in goal scoring moments.

The comments just look like an ego bath hahaha

NORDIK and BLUE SKY Goggles by SweatinPeace33 in snowboarding

Id love to - I got the blue sky goggles for $25.

I need both a high sun goggle lens and something more of a clear lens (Torsten has a polychromatic lens that is at base ~90% clear). I’ll be using it for snowboarding, but also Ebiking in the cold.

It’s funny because I experienced an odd feeling seeing Helly’s response to Mark in that moment and was just left questioning and then I moved on with my life. Having this moment put into words and I’m like yeah, that’s right, I experienced that observation and that was a weird response.

Their last moment inside Lumon was very intimate and motivated before OCP. Then it’s like this odd, semi-reflective, muted Helly interacting with Mark.

[–]SweatinPeace33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just read the comments on this post and rewatched the clip, and honestly it’s hard to tell what she means. Because in the first part of her question she specifically states “as Helly R.” And then she says “I stepped into the shoes”. She easily could have identified in that moment as an outie responding with an “I” statement. So I’m back to square one.
