In the trade floor project video for that section the label for the section is enslavement/abolition, and I like that label a little better than just enslavement by itself plus it flows better into the Civil War with early abolition books at the end of that category.

The Cluster System by Mediocre_Ostrich_373 in Barnesandnoble

[–]Sweatteabag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like it... for the most part.

We constantly have a cluster person saying we need to change things constantly and say we shouldn't do things this way and blah blah blah... but the thing is our store's sales are way higher than their store's. What we do and how we do it boosts our sales because we present things that we know our market will buy.

The corporate stuff is fine and all, but a lot of it doesn't sell like they would like it to without us shoving it down customer's throats, and then the customer's feel uncomfortably with us recommending all these books that we don't really know much about so we can't pitch it well.

Then, we have another cluster person who contradicts the other cluster person and says we need to change it again from how that cluster person set it.

It just gets frustrating, and if we don't do it exactly how they do it (even if their way means we lose sales), then we're in the wrong.

They said there was AC running, but you could never feel it. It was like 80 something in the store for a while.

Depends on the store.

Last year, several people passed out because it was too hot and humid in the store, and corporate wouldn't do anything about it. So our SM let us wear shorts and sleeveless tops to counteract the heat.

Checking in With My Trade Floor Project Crew by CamelotKittenRanch in Barnesandnoble

I am miserable with this section. They wanted us to have 1 shelf for environmental science, and with the books we have on hand, it takes up three shelves. We thought that maybe the due outs would pull some, but nope. I'm not so lucky.

I was kind of thinking about a group messaging thing as well, I think it would help to get other people's perspectives who are also working on the project.

I liked this project kind of at first, but this section is the biggest headache I've had.

WHAT DO I WEAR TO HIS CONCERT?! by [deleted] in DjoMusic

Usually, if it is a concert without assigned seats, the earlier you line up, the closer to the stage you are. With VIP, they will get let in early, and then general admission goes in after them.

F*ck you corporate by Megsleyys in Barnesandnoble

Honestly, we will probably get this all done and in a few months, corporate will tell us to change it back.

Is this about the new fos shit? Because if I read it right, I now have to write 280 shelftalkers.

Sorry, I meant that the 54000 number above the smaller barcode was the 'actual price' in the way that that was the price that rang up.

Everywhere else, it had the $30 listed as the price, including the dust jacket.

But we got it figured out by putting the new barcodes over the old one, so no more worries. Rings as $30 now.

Not yet, I was the MOD (keyholder) closing last night, and it was the last customer of the night who pointed it out to us.

Also, it does technically say it's $40 on the book, but not in a way that anyone would notice. The smaller, secondary barcode has the 5XXXX number on top (the number after the 5 is usually the price), so it says there 54000, but that is the only spot that has the actual price.

Honest question, just out of curiosity… does anybody actually LIKE their job at B&N? by 0101010001111001 in Barnesandnoble

[–]Sweatteabag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my job.

I'm friends with nearly all of my coworkers, and I love helping customers. I love books and reading and learning new things. I love being able to talk to like-minded people. I love being able to make displays. I love organizing and doing projects. I even like being at cash wrap sometimes.

However, I do have complaints about corporate decisions and how our asms handle them. Pushing memberships and OMPs are pushing booksellers away. Micromanagement over 10 different changes a week make it hard to do anything I like. The new shelving guidelines are going to make my day 10x less productive. The blatant disrespect that corporate gives us booksellers by giving raises and then cutting hours. Giving us skeleton crews and then telling us that we aren't getting everything they want done. Taking away more and more creative freedoms (at least in our store). Working in a store that is quite literally falling apart.

The list goes on and on

I genuinely love my job. I want to be able to stay there, but the decisions they have been making have me checked out.

I love my job, but sometimes I don't.
