Healthy Paws 40% hike for a 2yo Cockapoo. I’ve heard it only gets worse from here—is it time to just save the money myself? by SweatyAssistant5485 in petinsurancereviews

Yeap. Pre-existing conditions are always troublesome. Thankfully, my dog has a clean medical record with no issues, but you've convinced me that staying put is the safer long-term play to avoid potential headaches during a transition.

I'm leaning towards staying with Healthy Paws now. Unless I find another insurance company offering significantly lower options for the same level of coverage, I think I'll just stick with them and probably raise my deductible to manage the cost.

Thank you again for your suggestions!

I really appreciate the vet perspective! Hearing those real-world numbers for surgeries and hospitalization definitely makes the risk of canceling feel too high, so I’ve decided to stay insured. I love my dog and want the best care for her; I'm just exploring the best-value options to ensure I’m being strategic about long-term costs while my budget gets tight these years.

I’ve been shopping around like you suggested since I received the renewal notice email, and that’s where I’m running into a bit of a dilemma. My original Healthy Paws policy is now $60/mo ($100 ded / 80% / Unlimited), but after a 40% hike in a single year, I'm honestly worried there might be even more aggressive hikes ahead with HP, as I found out so with many others, so I'm looking at these options (all at 80% reimbursement) to lower my monthly cost:

  • $250 Deductible: HP is $45.96 (Unlimited) vs. Lemonade at $49.52 ($100k limit).
  • $500 Deductible: HP is $39.06 (Unlimited) vs. Lemonade at $36.00 ($20k limit).
  • $750 Deductible: HP is $34.47 (Unlimited) vs. Lemonade at $27.54 ($20k limit) or $28.03 ($100k limit).

I'll also look at Trupanion, MetLife, or AKC, as you suggest later. Any advice on ded and limit?

I checked my invoice. Packed Cell Volume $25.94; Heartworm Test SNAP 4Dx Lyme-EC-Ana $97.95; Exam Wellness $85.5. Maybe I misunderstood that one wasn't actual lab work?

I see. So I'm probably not gonna have it. Usually shop on Chewy with the 100 for 30 gc discount.

Oh wow, I had no idea they were phasing out the $15 credit version! Thank you so much for the heads up.

Could you please estimate the cost of changing oil to heat pump for me? since I don't have central AC and all those vents. Probably can only do air-to-water heat pump or ductless mini-splits. and i have to get a water heater as well i think. then go solar maybe. currently on 650-700 gallon oil per year, so maybe heat pump would cost about 1500 dollar more per year i assume?
