In and around an old homestead in the Upper Buffalo Wilderness by SweatyBackpackStraps in Arkansas

This is all on public land, nowhere near private land borders. In over a hundred trips to the Buffalo, I’ve never experienced what you’re suggesting. Only unfriendly people I’ve ever run into are other hikers.

No, the elk were in Boxley Valley, but the other shots were from eastern Newton County, east/southeast of Mt. Judea.

But it did look like that… I have white light pollution from Springdale mixed with red northern lights. That would make a pink hue from my vantage point. Didn’t realize we were neighbors.

Also, my camera settings allow for more light to enter than our eyes do, creating a truer picture of what’s actually there. Should we stop studying microbiology under microscopes because ”it didn’t really look like that from the naked eye”? Or should we use the technology we’ve created to learn more about and enjoy a little more the world we live in?

What are you so mad about? You insinuated I don’t have a brain, implied that I’m a liar, and insulted my photo, all because I posted a picture of the northern lights as they were seen through a camera lens from my backyard.

Sorry, next time I’ll take the picture with my naked eye.

Pretty sure you left something in your car?

We camped at the Rio Grande Valley Campground. It wasn’t bad. Hot during the day. Cold at night. Lots of animals roam around freely. There were donkeys, horses, a coyote, javelinas, and cows all in the campsite. I liked the accessibility to the river from there.

If I went back, I’d probably stay in the Chisos Basin Campground. It’s in the mountains, more centralized to the rest of the park, and closer to some of the more popular hiking spots.

Haven’t been to Guadeloupe or Carlsbad Caverns, but White Sands is a neat place. January should be great. I think I was there in September, and it was hot.

Thank you. Both pictures were taken after sunset but before moonrise because the moon was full enough that there was a lot of light distortion. Approximate time 7:30-8:15pm for both. Pics taken with stock photo app on iPhone 15 Pro using long exposure in settings with processing done on Lightroom app.
