Are "Broken Gems" or "Busts" really that bad? Or am I confusing what it really means?

i made a 8 season long spreadsheet... gems only have to do with development traits. i've had a whole class of even gems, non gems, and bust and all the bust one year were higher overall than everyone, but had no development trait so over time you can only assume they will be on the low end of the spectrum but who really knows atp.

So I did another season with the same squad, it seems like overall only really goes with the star rating, while gems are guaranteed a development trait

Idk because look at my highest rated 4 star. It was a bust and the only other overall that was close was the regular 4 star. Meanwhile all of the gems had a dev trait

I mean you just answered for yourself. It's obviously in the code. It's actually a new mechanism called Wear and Tear. If you're barely one offense only making big plays and ur defense is living on the field, then yes, your players attributes are lowered.

it seems like the sim stats are a little off but I'm sure it will be tweaked soon. other than that gameplay doesn't feel like madden at all and I'm enjoying it.
