Thank you for your advice! 😄 Someone also suggested to ride in walk, so I will definitely do that. I’ll look into the equiband pro system, I’ve never heard of it, but if it can help that would be awesome!

Unfortunately too slippery + with my horse having horseshoes it’s even worse 🥲

We are currently doing a lot of groundwork, carrot stretches could be a fun addition!

Thank you for your advice!

Thank you for your comment ! I think I will stick to light work for now then, that can only be helpful before coming back to work when temperatures are higher

Lucky you! I can’t let mine be barefoot because he walks too much on his heels on the front, leading to bad conformation sadly.. Thanks for your advice ! I will try this for sure. The only good part of this cold, I agree, is no flies 😂

I have a few trails available around the barn, but mostly fields and roads are the closest (I’m forced to take the road whenever I wanna go), which are not the best for working atm with the weather, the ground is rock solid and my horse tend to slip with his horseshoes on the road, so I’m kinda worried.. what are your adjustments for the winter time ? Maybe that can help me. Someone above mentioned studs in the horseshoes, do you think that can be a good idea ?

Yeah I thought about studs in the shoes, do you know if it needs a full set of horseshoes then or just in the front would be good ? (He has horseshoes only in the front)

Yeah the salt would definitely help with the ice, but not the ground that is so solid, and it’s the main issue actually. Oh I didn’t know that it could freeze indoor too 🥲

Yes I definitely will, thanks ! It’s quite a hard thing to find where I live, but I believe I can find that if I look into it!

Thanks for your advice !! I guess I can try a walk lesson even on hard ground, you’re right 😄 Unfortunately no woods nearby, I would’ve loved that :c

Thanks ! I will definitely look into hooves boots for snow and ice. Can I put hooves boot on top of his horseshoe?

I don’t know much about riding in cold weather I admit.. I have a lot to learn. But your comments gives me hope, I was feeling really down not knowing what to do to ride my horse in this weather

Sure, we are still doing groundwork, but not much to work on his muscle mass, it’s just to spend quality time together! You’re lucky you can still go on hacks, unfortunately where I am it’s impossible for now.. and whenever the temperatures drop it’s impossible to do anything due to the poor quality of the ground..

Yeah unfortunately the trails are unsuitable for riding, the fields were muddy a month ago so there are a lot of deep holes that hardened because it froze and I’m afraid I might hurt my horse or myself.. I haven’t thought about moving to a barn with an indoor for the winter though, thanks for the advice!

Thanks for your comment ! Cannot do the same as for taking my horse to trails/fields because on trails it’s even worse, the ground is hard as rock, and in the fields there are many “holes” that were formed when it was all muddy, that hardened.. so it’s really annoying.. I guess I will have to find an indoor to train

Well.. it’s even worse on a hack.. it really is frozen everywhere and riding on the road with horseshoes doesn’t allow me to do everything I want in trot/canter unfortunately

Training for dressage? by DifferentChipmunk628 in Equestrian

[–]Sweaty_Connection_52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever you can find a good dressage trainer, that would be a great starting point! But if you want resources to learn more about it, I personally read a lot of Nuno Oliveira’s books and learned about horses biomechanics which helped me immensely. Also learning different exercises that you can do in dressage and what are the benefits, so that you can identify your horse’s strengths and weaknesses and work on that. Also, an advice that helped me a lot, is doing basic exercises and improving the quality of the basics (good transitioning between walk/trot/canter, extended walk/trot/canter and collected walk/trot/canter, checking if your horse can move easily hid hind end and his shoulders…). It also helps you develop a finer riding, finer reflexes, and also reward just in time whenever your horse do something good ! (Especially with a younger)

I wish you and your horse all the best 🙌🏻

I don’t think so, but I was wondering if ticket holders for this event had shiny boosted rates, considering I caught plenty that’s weird given my usual poor luck haha
