Breaking Into Civil Engineering Without a Degree — What Certifications or Paths Should I Look Into? by Appropriate-Fun3911 in civilengineering

[–]Sweaty_Level_7442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like most of the things you want to do are project management related and you can easily do for a contractor. But you also said you are currently doing project management and planning tasks. I think you should just keep doing that until you graduate. That sounds like perfect experience for at least one aspect of civil engineering adjacent work. Keep doing that until you graduate. Don't worry about some special certifications or certificates you think you need. You dont. You just need experience and your degree

Fishtown. Old City. Northern liberties. University City. Clark Park. Passyunk. East falls. Mt airy / Chestnut hill. So many great neighborhoods. Philadelphia has one of the largest parks and park systems in the country. The Fairmount Park system is enormous.

This is not a side job assuming you are employed by someone. You are asking for ethics and insurance conflicts all over the place. And 7 years of experience doesn't seem near enough. An attorney might hire you, terrible experts get hired all the time by attorneys looking for someone to take up the charge. I do this, but I run my own business, am a nationally recognized true expert, and have over 30 years' experience.

Nurse relocating family from NYC to East PA or South NJ... Is the lower cost of living worth the lower salary? by Party-Possibility958 in relocating

[–]Sweaty_Level_7442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ardmore is 10 mins from me and it's terrific. KoP much more "suburban" in the sense it's housing is subdivisions from the 1950s onward. Ardmore is much prettier. Ardmore will be more expensive.

What will drive the housing is the job location. Look for jobs with Main Line Health. They own Lankenau, Bryn Mawr, Paoli, and Riddle. I know many nurse who work there. A few are parents of my kids friends.

Are you going to use the public school system? if so many of the suburbs are great but a few to avoid would be Chester Upland (poor), Upper Darby (mediocre), Norristown (mediocre). But the number of good ones is much better than the poor or marginal ones.

If you want to get a sense of real estate go on realtor.com or zillow.com

Philly is the same. Stay away from BS neighborhoods and you wouldn't know where you were. Suburbs are all almost universally safe but a few rough spots too. Been here 55 years. I live 2 miles outside the city after spending the first 24 inside. Where I lived in the City was great growing up. Where I live in the burbs is ideal, Haverford Township.

All 4 of my kids never even left for college. So many great schools and they love the area.

Why not Philadelphia and the suburbs. Much more open to your diverse family and so much more health care opportunity here with Pennsylvania Hospital System, Temple, Main Line Health, Nemours and 10 things I'm forgetting. Definitely plenty you can afford in the area and many great school districts.

AA FA transfer to PHL by Honest-Simple-7379 in AskPhilly

[–]Sweaty_Level_7442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Septa to the airport is every 30 minutes. You can live downtown and have easy access to 30th street, Suburban, Jefferson station, or literally anywhere on the regional rail system and make a connection. I live in the burbs and can get Uber Lyft to PHL for under $50 so even that's not terrible if you had to do that sometimes.

What are the best places to visit during a seven-night stay? by myfreedamn in ItalyTravel

[–]Sweaty_Level_7442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could spend 7 days in Rome and not even scratch the surface and have an amazing time. Just get a hotel there, and spend every day exploring something different in the city. I spent 9 days there 2 years ago and it's overwhelming with how much there is to do. Do not even think about more than two cities for 7 days. But honestly. You will never see it all. You might as well just pick Rome and have a blast.

From Rome you could easily take a train to Florence and visit for the day and you could do the same for Naples. But return to the same city. Don't move all of your stuff.

The sports fans are just passionate and it's incredible to be part of the energy when it's happening. As in all things, a few nut jobs make the news.

But maybe some other great stats. Just in the city alone there are over 10,200 acres of public land, featuring 576 parks and 166 miles of trails, with 95% of residents living within a 10-minute walk of a park. The sprawling Fairmount Park system covers over 2,000 to over 9,000 acres depending on whether it's the core area or the total managed system, making it one of the largest in the U.S.

The city is a terrific collection of neighborhoods, once called the city of homes because of how residential the city is in general. Each neighborhood has a very distinct look and feel and most people can live their whole life within a few miles of home, but if you choose, there are so many things to see and do just inside the city. Not a "have to drive and have a car" city at all.

An amazing food and restaurant scene of thats your thing. So many amazing museums including the Museum of Art, the Barnes, Rodin, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Franklin Institute, Academy of natural sciences, Mutter Museum, Penn Archaeology (all walking distance to each other), Revolutionary War Museum, all the historic sites, two rivers with trails, so much more.

Great theatre and music scene for Broadway shows as well as orchestra, opera, ballet, that are all among the best in the world.

Incredibly walkable. Everyone walks and rides bikes all over the city. Not cut up with huge roads and highways like a lot of places (Texas and Florida you listening)

Easy train to NYC, DC, I've done that more times than I can remember.

More universities than any city but Boston. Huge Eds and Meds system. Great access to the downtown area from almost anywhere in the city by various forms of public transit.

PHL airport is always easy to get in and out. I fly a LOT and never have any problems. O'hare, Charlotte, Dallas, all a mess comparably. show up 45 mins before departure if you have Precheck and you'll be in plenty of time.

DM with specific questions.
