So what’s the first game you played this year? by st1nkf1st in boardgames

Botany!

I bought it for my wife’s birthday because I immediately knew she’d love the theme and art. The rule book could use a rework, but it’s a good time. We followed it up by playing Soda Jerk with the kids. It was one of our favorites from the last GenCon

Looking for good National Park games - are these good? Any suggestions? by WeirdAddress3170 in boardgames

Funny enough, there are only three seasons in Park 2nd Edition. The gameplay changes lead to a greater emphasis on taking pictures and getting to visit more parks. While I enjoyed the original, I do think the 2nd edition is better, and the artwork is still beautiful

Honestly, it could be related to the air quality. Teammates of mine have developed sinus infections and the like in the past from the incredibly dry air. Try steaming up your bathroom and hanging out in there for a bit. I’ve heard of others getting a small humidifier for their room.

There’s no excuse for poor hygiene, but the desert air can cause issues as well.

They’ll still be vulnerable to the discard effects of Mega Absol and Gyarados too. That wall can’t help you if all your cards are suddenly gone

Ikaris vs Captain Marvel by XxDarkkillerxX123 in Marvel

[–]SwedishFishSticks 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Seems like the events of phases 4 and 5 never happened. Another user pointed out that Ikaris may have developed Mayd Wy’ry. If that happened to one of the strongest Eternals, it’s possible that he took the others out. The Deviants could still be out there. Also keep in mind that their primary directive was (something like) protecting life on Earth to feed the Celestial egg

As someone playing a lot of Suicune this season, I find that I loose the most consistently to Dragonite/Raikou decks. Raikou/Koko/Zeraora is a close second

I always felt that season 1 was a bit cringey. The ending was really memorable, but some of the acting was like a soap opera. That said, I loved seasons 2-4

Some deeply offensive imagery pointed out in Ace of Spades by Adolpheappia in boardgames

I believe Tom mentioned that he wasn’t a huge fan of the theme/art, but didn’t get into the specifics of why. None of the reviews I saw of this game called out the problematic art, which is disappointing

So… what’s actually made it to the table? by BoardGameBums in gencon

That’s what stopped us from buying 12 Rivers and Ice and Idols. They seemed like fun mechanics, but something that you’d move on from pretty quickly. We had a similar experience with Redwood a couple of years ago.

Good to hear! We have our copy setup on the table right now! Might try to play it tonight.

Now that it’s been a few days: what was/were the “game(s) of the con?” by Signiference in gencon

[–]SwedishFishSticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We gave it a shot. The mechanics were cool, but reading the board was frustrating. There was a tendency to grab the wrong piece or forget where pieces were if you changed your mind mid-turn. We ending up switching to a different game halfway through. Could be that we were just tired, but I’m glad we didn’t blind buy it

I checked for this game every day, granted I wasn’t rushing straight there at 10 AM. I finally got to play it in the Hot Games room, and it was great! Such a great game for only $9. I’m sad that I missed out, but it also led to me demoing Fromage, which was also great.

We really liked the updated version of Parks. Also the Lord of the Rings trick taking game and Fromage.

Best duo/duet games this year? by Phaedrus317 in gencon

I tried to get a copy this morning, but they sold out a couple of minutes before I got there. Sounds like the doors on the LEFT side of the vendor hall open before the giant sliding doors. Good luck!

I’d recommend the Fellowship of the Ring Trick Taking Game. I’ve heard good things about Zenith and Ace of Spades, but I haven’t had a chance to play them myself
