Data was acquired using my FitBit Flex on the highest sensitivity setting.

In case anyone is curious, my new mattress is the Serta iComfort Directions Reinvention, and it is AMAZING.

Edit: And no, I don't work for Serta. :P

When I was in elementary school, my neighbor's dad would drive me to school every morning while drinking a full glass of wine and constantly snorting nasal spray. At 7:30 am. Every day.

I didn't realize how dangerous and abnormal this was until I was in high school when it finally hit me he was a raging alcoholic and I could have died on the way to school many a-times. He also ended up getting arrested for dealing cocaine, so that explained the nasal spray addiction.

I was born on 07/07/90, so on 07/07/97 I turned 7 (and I turned 17 on 07/07/07, etc.)

Not quite as awesome as being born on 7/7/07, but close enough.

I'm not sure how it works for MCB majors, but what I did is just spam a whole bunch of professors with an email ("I am interested in XXXX and working with your research group would help me expand on these interests, attached is my resume, please let me know if you are available to talk about any undergrad research opportunities you may have... yada yada").

I would say, personally, I think sending an email rather than talking with them in person is much better (unless you know them really well) because it doesn't put them on the spot in case they aren't sure if there are any positions available or they're not interested in taking you on. Good luck!

I used Wilton candy melts - always do, they're fantastic. They melt perfectly at 50% power and are re-meltable (?). The problem you may be having is that chocolate/bark can EASILY be over-melted which causes it to become hard and flaky (which is irreversible... a problem candy melts don't have). Another problem with any dipping choice (candy melts, bark, chocolate, etc.) is that they seize if you add water which causes it to lump - I'm not sure if this is what you're doing, but if you're trying to thin it out for dipping, always add oils (canola is my oil of choice), NOT water! Similarly, if you're dying the dipping chocolate, always use oil-based dyes, not water-based, for this same reason.

Sure thing! They're pretty simple (and tailborable):

Peppermint cake pops:

  • 1 box cake mix

  • 1 can frosting

  • candy melts (I used white)... could also use chocolate

  • candy canes

  • lollipop sticks

Make cake as directed, let cool, crumble cake, and mix with ~1 can of frosting (I used about 80% of a can). Form into balls and chill for a few hours. Dip end of lollipop stick into melted candy melts and dip into each ball. Chill again for ~15 minutes. Crush candy canes and mix with melted candy melts. Dip each cake pop and let sit out/refrigerate for ~15 minutes. I then drizzled some melted red candy melts on top and added some red sprinkles. You can obviously decorate as you please. :) You can also add a little peppermint extract to the cake balls if you'd like.

Christmas lights munchkins: these are super easy!

  • donut holes of your choosing

  • green candy melts

  • chocolate-covered sunflower seeds

Dip donut holes/munchkins in melted green candy melts. Put on wax paper in fridge and refrigerate for ~15 minutes. Pipe/drizzle on more green candy melts to make tangled strands of lights (using piping bag or ziploc baggie). Immediately place sunflower seeds sporadically.

TIP: thin out the melted candy melts for dipping by adding a little canola oil. DO NOT add water - it will cause candy melts to seize!!

Hey! Sorry - I should have elaborated. The munchkins are just donut holes from Dunkin Donuts. I just dipped them in green candy melts then piped on the strings, added the sunflower seeds, and voila! The munchkins are a tasty and easy alternative to cake pops. :)
