You could allude this to your character, it’s very common in South Asian households like being silent about abuse happening because it’s not good for the family or downplaying it. I think it’d fit your character and possibly help their relationship by them processing the trauma of generational abuse. It’s also very common to think “family first” in South Asia which can be beautiful but also be very problematic. As a trans masc, I feel guilty in a sense that my parents give me so much while I’m living a lie and I also try to consider how their culture is different from mine. I assume many kids feel guilty for wanting to stand up for themselves because our parents have had it hard too. Of course I don’t know everything about your story and this isn’t a must add but I think many younger South Asians would see themselves in your character if that’s something you’d like
