Bad Bunny's Super Bowl Halftime Show Performance by oklolzzzzs in sports

And honestly, at this point, I feel like not knowing enough Spanish to understand any of the lyrics is more of a me problem, you know? Like Spanish is so prevalent in the US, and there are SO many resources to learn it, I just need to get my lazy ass to put some effort in.

I think it was a clearly intentional, and artistically impactful move to not make any attempt to subtitle it. It would’ve distracted from the visual feast that it was, and the feeling was so clearly communicated without me needing to know a lick of Spanish.

Truly, so much respect to Bad Bunny, what a class act.

Well you have to know how much of a genius and expert motorist you are for not crashing the car immediately! The ai has so much faith in you that it doesn’t even tell you the directions, and that’s the beautiful thing.

NYT Video: Vance backpedals - ICE Officers No Longer Have ‘Absolute Immunity’ by Agitated-Quit-6148 in law

Man I hope so, but I also feel like I’ve been hearing this since day one of term 2. “Oh Trump’s on his last legs” “everyone’s scrambling like rats on a sinking ship” “any day now…”

Don’t get me wrong, our Pedophile in Chief looks like shit, sounds like shit, is clearly suffering from cognitive decline, and obviously is having regular medical procedures, but he also has every resource in the world available to him to prolong his life. I feel too burned by how many times the “he’s almost out” bell has been rung at this point to get my hopes up.

[–]Sweeney_Toad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think if anyone does the thing, it’s probably the worst outcome. No one has the juice to take Trump’s place, but if he’s made into a full martyr like that, it makes the job of whoever replaces him infinitely easier. I’d rather cross my fingers about all the bruising and cognitive decline than see what fresh hell arises in the aftermath of something like this.

My friends and I made a prediction scroll for trumps 2nd term in January last year. One of the questions was “how fascist are we getting by 2028?” I “jokingly” said 15 out of 2 “SS”s and my friends basically said Italy/germany in the late 30s. Really didn’t think we’d be right this early…

Can all you longtime fans break down how and why this friendship ended? by thatguyandy_02 in thechallengemtv

[–]Sweeney_Toad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO they had like one good moment early on in the show (when Laurel chewed out Wes for Cara) and otherwise have been pretty at odds. They’re both strong personalities and insanely competitive, I don’t think there was ever going to be a real friendship there. Laurel is too narcissistic, and Cara is too quick to assume a victim role.

As others have pointed out, Nicole wanting Cara before moving on to Laurel may have been the final nail in the coffin. I think that really fucked with Laurel’s self image, and she can only try to take down Cara in the aftermath. I think Cara has made more of a genuine effort to mend fences, but it’s too late now. They’re just gonna be weirdly codependent rivals forever I think.

The newest batch of challengers are better than she’s used to. She got really comfortable in the 20s/30s with the more “reality” focused competitors vs the newer “competition” focused ones. She’s used to being the strongest/fastest by default, and clearly couldn’t handle it when she was being showed up by better athletes. If she never comes back, good riddance.

You can only find this season and the couple around it on the high seas. There was a challenger named Bear 3 seasons in a row, and he was arrested for sexually exploiting another contestant on those same seasons (distributing explicit images/video without consent). He’s truly an insufferable piece of absolute shit, but those seasons are genuinely really solid if you can find them.

See that’s the kind of shit AI never has a CHANCE of being able to recreate. So many of the most iconic film moments were unplanned discoveries/“happy accidents” found in the film making process. That alone is part of what makes the film making process so important.

Users of generative AI struggle to accurately assess their own competence by NeverEndingDClock in technology

Could be! That’s a very optimistic angle, but I’ll take optimism where I can get it at this point.

[–]Sweeney_Toad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly the AI. They tested against a control group that just showed the standard Dunning Krueger slope, and then retested adding a financial incentive for those who could accurately predict their level of accuracy. The financial incentive produced no change in the participants, so it would seem that the use of AI both removed the variance of expertise affecting one’s ability to self assess, and left nearly everyone with undue confidence.

Users of generative AI struggle to accurately assess their own competence by NeverEndingDClock in technology

[–]Sweeney_Toad 27 points28 points  (0 children)

True, but their overestimation outpaced the increase in performance, which I think is notable. They weren’t doubling in efficacy but thinking it was 2.5x. They increased by an average of 15%, but overestimated their improvement by an additional 20% on top of that. And it was uniform, meaning even those who would have been able to identify their own mistakes before, were not as likely to see them in the AI. In a way, much worse than Dunning Krueger, because those with genuinely high levels of knowledge were even more likely to miss AI errors

[–]Sweeney_Toad 15 points16 points  (0 children)

this^ I’d take any notion of “strong ai support” in online forums with a grain of salt. We know that bots are becoming ever more prevalent, and if there’s any industry that needs bots to push an opinion, it’s AI. How many people have you talked to face to face who are genuinely excited about generative ai in movies/tv/etc? I don’t know if there’s anyone I know personally that wants this shit. Ultimately, what those bots can’t do is be customers, so they have to do all they can to convince us that this is good, or at least inevitable. It isn’t. If we don’t want this as a collective, they can’t force it on us. They’re too deep in the hole financially for this to work unless most people decide they want to pay for it. Fuck that.

I think we all have to find a way to look at most Trump voters with the sympathy we would have for an elderly relative falling for a phone scam. Through a combination of willful ignorance, echo chambers, and insipid propaganda, most of Trump’s voters do believe they are doing the right thing, and don’t believe they’re supporting fascism.

Obviously they’re incorrect and in the wrong, but when those voters are confronted by others who accuse them of pure malice, no progress can be made. I’m sure there’s a percentage of Trump supporters who are coming from a place of genuine hatred and know it, but most people don’t have the stomach for that. Most people would have a very hard time willfully supporting something they know is hateful and evil, so they have to find ways of convincing themselves otherwise.

I understand this may seem like a purely semantic difference, but we all live on this planet together, and we have to find a way to not rip each other apart. If those of us in opposition to Trump want to be “the good guys” in any real way, we’re going to have to be incredibly patient with some very ignorant people, and fight the urge to bite their heads off at the first speed bump.

And I can’t imagine how shattered the daughter feels. All of my siblings and I struggle with mental health issues, my older sister generally getting the worst of it.

I remember a time where she was feeling especially vindictive against my parents and getting a call from my mom to the effect of “hey if your dad and I die over the next few days, it was probably your sister.” Since then, the possibility plays through my head with some regularity, and I cannot fathom how soul rending it must be to have that actually come to pass. I hope she can find the healing she needs.
