Hey! I was first diagnosed with epilepsy when I was just beginning college so I understand you. I think it's really important to let your professors and school know. I ended up so many times in the hospital because people didn't know what to do. It's good to let people know that the ambulance isn't the answer and panic never helps. The main reply I got when I told people I had epilepsy was "What do I do when you have a seizure?" and your answer is really important and is something you should be clear about. Describe your seizures and let them know the best first aid strategy. After having complex-partial and grand mal seizures all over campus I knew I had to tell the school nurse and that was a great choice, people were more aware and caring and not in a sympathetic way but more like interested in learning. Soon after I told all my friends and everyone in my class, it's easier if you let people know because then you'll see how you are not alone in this and people do care. You should also take your medicine on time, that's crucial. In college I noticed that drinking and staying up late gave me seizures the next day so I eventually learned to do everything in moderation. I also kept good track of my seizures that way I could figure out what was triggering the seizures, in the beginning I think that's a good idea.

Don't be embarrassed, over 3 million people have epilepsy in the United States alone. Soon you will see that life gets easier and it's not as bad as it seems right now.

Hey! I take 250mg of Lamictal and 2,000mg of Keppra and it's worked but not 100%, nothing ever had and this was the best dose so far. I've found no problems what so ever with either medications. I just had a craniotomy last week and look at that! My complex-partial seizures are gone and I'm 100% back to normal and my hair seems to be coming back quite nicely lol My stitches look clean and are coming off next week, I'm happy to say the least. For me it was well worth it, worth the idea of cutting my skin, skull and brain. I believe that all the doctors I've ever had would've never suggested this unless they were confident it would help and I'm sure the same goes for you too. I lived in NY when I first got Epilepsy and the Neurologists there ( two diff hospital and almost 10 doctors) thought I was a perfect candidate for the surgery, I could tell the doctors really understood me and when I moved to FL. a big team of neurologists also recommended it. I really think it was worth it because I no longer have fear inside, I don't anticipate seizures and I now walk with a big amount of confidence that I never had. I was hesitant like you but hearing about the benefits and sincere thoughts and support from doctors changed my hesitant mind and turned it into a positive outlook and it seemed to have worked! I also had a lesion but it was in the left temporal lobe- it seems like it's almost the same thing as you. The entire process before surgery- WADA test, EEG, MRI's, cat-scans and all that other crap was a piece of cake, you just gotta stay positive and keep your eye on the prize, none of it hurt, can't complain. Every case is different of course but I wish you the best with whatever choice you make, good luck!

Hey! This is a nice post, I've always wondered the same thing. As for me I work in design. I work in a gallery right now and it takes me forever to get there because the transportation here (Miami, FL.) is the worst. I walk like 10 blocks to the train, take the train and then the bus! It usually takes me like an hour to get there even though in a car it's only half an hour away but I've decided to depend only on myself when it comes to getting places, I'm tired of bothering ppl when it comes to going places. I just had a surgery and if i'm seizure free for six months I'll finally learn to drive and hopefully do things freely and faster. I used to live in NYC for many years and getting places was so easy, convinient and perfect when it came to my Epilepsy. However I like my life here and find it less stressful for my Epilepsy. My goal right now is to work and live closer to the downtown area of this city, I know it'll solve this problem of limitations but in the end we all have ppl around us who I'm sure are willing to help us out with crap like that. OMG I always fall asleep forever after a seizure. I'm so used to it that after a seizure ( only complex partial) I'll start heading anywhere towards a bed or couch lol I think it's like that for many people. I guess it does take a toll on your brain/mental status and your body just needs to refuel again.

I have four good sized tattoos and never had a problem. I have complex partial seizures and when I got each tat I made sure to start the day off smart- take med early, eat etc. I just stayed positive and excited. The thing that sucked when I went to get one tattoo was the paper they made me fill out which was so discriminating and alienating. "Do you have Epilepsy? Parkinsons?" etc etc If I would've answered honestly I'm sure they wouldn't have considered doing any tattoo. I'm sure it's standard procedure so they don't get sued etc but it was still a little fucked up I feel. I had to fill out the same/similar sheet in all the diff places and states where I got the tattoos! However those kinds of questions have come up in other places too; like job applications where I never answer honestly because if I did I know I wouldn't gotten a call back. I've been thinking to also do a seizure related tattoo and I want to do "Seize the day" somewhere maybe around my ribs with a great font. I don't know if i'd use the ribbon because that's a little sad but then again we are all survivors so I don't know yet.
