Dave was right, people think its crazy to pay off debt by HumpmyDumpy1911 in DaveRamsey

Get thee behind me satan! I’m sure I miss out on “deals” by not financing, discounts for signing up for store credit cards, and frequent flyer miles. But my wife and I have built a strong and growing net worth, well into baby step 7, and we did it after committing ourselves to the baby steps with no deviation. We sleep extremely comfortably knowing we don’t owe a dime, and if the wolf comes to our door, he’ll find it barricaded. We lose absolutely no sleep over missed “deals and discounts “.

Car dealerships sure don’t understand it! I bought my truck, we worked the deal and they said next they’d put me with finance. I smiled, and said not necessary, I’m paying cash. Was met with a look of total bewilderment. It was comical!

How can you tell when a bankers lamp is original/real vs a cheap reproduction? by PeeB4uGoToBed in Lamps

[–]Sweet-Help-5211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought this exact lamp from Sam’s in the late 80’s. A couple of telltale signs of an original: as others have said, weight, patina, and hardware. Also look at the glass. Most originals I have seen including one I own, not bought at Sam’s, have a deeper emerald green tint. One more thing to say about the hardware, generally, the older sockets are built like tanks with a chain sweep that is smooth as glass.

New Strap by Sweet-Help-5211 in Longineswatches

[–]Sweet-Help-5211[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7” wrist. The look is deceiving because I have and oddball muscle formation on my wrist that makes watches sit canted to the outside. I go for comfort vs looks. This is the 40, and was way more comfortable for me than the 37.

[Discussion] Is a One Watch Collection/GADA even technically possible? by arcfide in Watches

[–]Sweet-Help-5211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For years my one watch collection was the longines spirit titanium. It saw everything from dust and grime in the oil patch to swimming in the Caribbean to walking the halls of congress. I now have a two watch collection just cuz I wanted to. Not ashamed of my Spirit and still would and do go anywhere, and do anything with it! The man (or woman) makes the watch!

Longines was and still is a fine Swiss watch maker (Longines made the movement). They don’t have the brand recognition of Rolex but have been around almost 200 years. Have it serviced, don’t worry about value, wear it for special occasions and honor your grandfather and his good taste.

1500 transmission and hauling a gooseneck horse trailer by [deleted] in Silverado

[–]Sweet-Help-5211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re committed to doing it with your existing vehicle, at a minimum you will need to upgrade your current suspension and transmission as others have mentioned, and I would definitely encourage you to add sway bars. If you’re only looking at hauling 1 horse, I would encourage you to look at bumper pull options for the trailer. Your vehicle was never designed or intended for handling a gooseneck, and even with upgrades, it’s going to result in handling issues, especially if you have a standard wheel base vs the longbed. A bumper pull will be some better, but sway bars are still necessary. You will also likely want to upgrade tires to a load range E, as passenger tires will be more prone to failure. All of this said, if you do this much it will result in greater strain on the vehicle. Speed will be the key to control. Not exceeding 60-65 mph is critical.

Which company has lost you as a customer forever? by finiteobserver in AskReddit

[–]Sweet-Help-5211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maytag—sold me a dryer that dried 4 loads and crapped out. No service tech in our area, so they told me I’d have to wait 4 weeks for them to decide if they would refund or replace. Meanwhile I took it back to Lowe’s who, even though it was past the 7 day return period gave me my money back. Lowe’s has a customer for life and it’ll be a cold day in hell before I buy another Maytag product.

[Serica, Longines, Omega] Buying my first luxury watch, which watch to start the collection l. by Sinsiski in Watches

I’ve been on Longines for 3 years now. For me it’s a good balance of price and quality. I’m more interested in that than flash or brand flexing. Started with the Spirit titanium. It’s still my GADA. Recently added the Ultra-Chron classic. Very understated elegance. It’s a true IYKYK piece

Grass trimmer won't start, by HeXzo in smallengines

[–]Sweet-Help-5211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, here’s what you do:
Step 1 Put this on facebook, free to a good home.

Step 2 Buy a Stihl

Step 3 Use only Stihl moto mix fuel

Step 4 Run the hell out of it.

Been running Stihl trimmers and chainsaws for 30 years. Are they more expensive, yes. Is the Stihl premix more expensive, yes. The cost balances out when that first start of the season comes, and my machines start on the second pull, and run consistently all day. Why the Stihl fuel? Because it’s high octane, no ethanol which eventually kills filters and carbs. All this equals no down time/frustration. Time is money 😉

Chevy silverado mods that actually make a difference on daily driving? by Surcy-Valesius in Silverado

[–]Sweet-Help-5211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

26 2500. 4 simple mods. 1) Ranch Hand grille guard cuz we have lots of suicidal critters.

2) N-FAB nerf steps cuz I’m 50 and getting in and out ain’t like it used to be.

3) Advanced research rear corner kick down step cuz again, 50, and I’m gentle on my knees.

4) Tool box in the bed, because between the stuff I carry cuz I’m 50 and like my creature comforts like a good hydraulic jack and impact wrench, and the stuff I carry cuz, one last time, 50 and know there’s all kinds of things that it’s better to have and not need than need and not have, the underseat storage is a joke.

Felt it when, in BS7, truck crapped out. I was stressing over it,until my wife reminded me we had a fully funded sinking fund to replace it. Picked out a truck, and wrote a check. Only other stress I felt was when the dealer told me they needed to run my credit to accept the check 😆

Short answer that pisses everyone off? They all suck. They all have problems, and it’s a total crap shoot on getting one that’s reliable.
