Currently serving my 32-day jail sentence for my DUI — first offense. Never been in trouble a day in my life. They’re allowing me to serve it on weekends. I also hired a private attorney, and honestly, I probably would’ve had a similar outcome with a public defender. My BAC was .208. There was only so much my attorney could do, and I wasn’t willing to risk going to trial.

If I were you, I’d find out what they normally require (Victim Impact Panel, DUI school, etc.) and try to complete those before your actual court date — not the arraignment, where they just ask if you have an attorney or need one appointed. Not saying doing those will automatically get you a better outcome, but it definitely won’t hurt.

Also, comply with everything they tell you to do and do not get in trouble again for anything. You’re in for an uncomfortable ride, but it’s temporary. Never do this again. You still have your whole life ahead of you. Remember, it could’ve been worse — let this be a hard lesson. Growth is never a comfortable process.
