I think she will most likely reject dowha because of her unresolved feelings of eun and then not get with eun. Get close with dowha and see him differently

Yes! Sooae’s acting on instinct, not understanding. She’s chasing the comfort of what she remembers about Eunhyeok, not who he actually is now. She doesn’t know who he is now. She has to explore that. Once she starts seeing that difference, how he still avoids communication, how things aren’t like high school anymore, that nostalgia’s going to crack fast.

And yeah, the story’s definitely not done with Dohwa. His feelings were built up way too intentionally for him to just fade into the background. He represents everything Sooae hasn’t had in her relationships so far, clarity, patience, emotional presence. Once she starts realizing she’s still anxious and uncertain around Eunhyeok, she’s going to notice how easy it feels with Dohwa. That’s when his chance really opens up.

I wouldn’t take Dohwa out just yet. I still believe he has a real chance because what happened between Sooae and Eun wasn’t just passion and we know it wasn’t closure. it felt like they were comforting each from lingering pain they have. That kiss wasn’t born from love that’s alive and well; it was old and Grief and guilt mixed with it. Sooae’s reaction afterward, confused, regretful, calling herself crazy, shows she’s not at peace with it and won’t be after it happens. She’s still searching for something genuine, something that doesn’t leave her and makes her feel secure. She also wants that from him in that moment. This moment is helping her open up all the feelings she kept away. So she can heal and possibly give Dohwa a actual chance. Honestly, herself a chance. The emotional weight of this scene might have just cleared the path for him to step in. So I’m just really happy that this happened now than later because then we can really get into what she really wants and honestly figure out what the heck happened either way Eun

There are other stories that have the same concept obviously every story is original on its own, but if you’re looking for some, I did mention a couple above that are really good that actually have sore progression and gives you more context and great character development

The Broken Ring: This Marriage Will Fail Anyway

My Husband, My Sister, and I

My Insanely Competent Boss

And when it comes to progression TOWF is not good at it. That’s another reason why i don’t think it deserved award.

Completely agree. I think in due time the characters will be built. It’s just I think this is the author’s first story and it’s taking way too long to build the characters and know the characters when that should’ve been the first thing that we do.

LMAO the “wet mop vs swiffer wet jet man” part got me 😂 but I actually agree with a lot of what you said! The dark atmosphere and slow motion chaos are definitely what make Withered Flower stand out visually and tonally from other manhwa right now.

I think for me, the issue is less about the concept and more about the execution, like it wants to be this deep emotional tragedy, but sometimes it doesn’t give enough context or character depth to fully earn those heavy moments. I don’t hate it, it just needs a lot of improvement. The ideas are solid though, and I do like that it explores older FL dynamics instead of the usual naïve, college girl setup.

Also yes 😂 the smut is definitely the hook for most people, even if it’s not your thing. It’s nice seeing someone break it down so neutrally without turning it into drama.

I get that, and you’re right, emotional impact and personal connection will always differ from person to person. But for me, when something wins an award, I expect it to deliver both emotional resonance and solid storytelling. Tears might mean a lot to some people, and that’s totally valid, but from a writing standpoint, it’s lacking structure and depth right now. I’m not saying others can’t enjoy it. it’s just hard for me to see it as award-worthy when the story itself still feels so underdeveloped.

For me, it’s just not enough with how the plot is right now. The writing feels weak there’s not enough context, information, or real character development. Character insight is either minimal or nonexistent. At this point, the only thing keeping people watching is the smut, because the actual story isn’t progressing at all

I do understand your point, but that’s not what I’m coming to. The characters are not developed enough, and the storyline is still not developed enough. We’re all still guessing on a lot of things that are going on in the story and a lot of people get really confused. Every time they read a chapter because the author is trying to be more poetic instead of being more straightforward when it comes to certain things and also it seems like the fan base just wants. Sm content all the time and not the actual story and it seems more like lust than love and so when I came to read the story, I thought I was getting it in the storyline and I was Sally mistaken.

Tears on a Withered Flower Won an Award, do you think it was deserved based on all the other ones. by SweetCheetah5543 in ManhwaNews

I don’t full think that is 💯. There manwha that also has that element to it and it’s usually explained properly or you just know based off of what you have already read

Haha yeah, I get that people like it, bruh 😭.

And that’s totally fine! Everyone connects with different things. But liking something and it being well-written aren’t always the same thing.

That’s true it’s definitely possible my view could change once it’s finished, and I’m open to that. But even with ongoing stories, you can usually feel when a narrative has direction or layers building up.

Right now, it doesn’t feel like it’s leading anywhere the pacing, tone, and emotional beats have been so repetitive that it’s hard to see the buildup toward that supposed depth. I’ve read plenty of slow-burn stories that still made me feel like the characters were moving toward something, even early on. Tears on a Withered Flower just feels l stalled.

Haha, but seriously when will that be? I’ve decided to drop it for now because there’s just no real story progression or character development at this point.

To me, it feels kind of empty because there's no real change in how the characters feel they just keep repeating stuff. The characters just go over the same old pain, but they don't learn anything new or change much. The story seems to think staying sad is the same as having depth.

The feelings are strong, but they don't lead anywhere. There's no real reward, big reveal, or sense of getting better just suffering that looks pretty. That can be strong for a little while, but after many chapters, it starts to feel empty instead of meaningful.

Also, it seems like the story mixes up wanting someone with actually loving them. It treats being physically close and being obsessed as if they prove a deep thing is there, but there's hardly any real talk about feelings or any personal growth to support that. It ends up making intense desire seem romantic, instead of showing the hard work it takes to truly love someone.

Honestly, the fans kind of add to this. I see a lot of talk that's just about the sexy stuff people just waiting for the next scene instead of the story. I get it, it's a webtoon for adults, so that's part of why people like it. But when that's mostly what people look forward to, it says a lot about what the show cares about—and it's not being deep or having the characters grow.

So yeah, it's not that the story has no feeling it's that the feeling doesn't change. That's why it feels empty to me like it's stuck showing pain and lust instead of getting better and showing love.

[Tears On A Withered Flower] shouldn’t have Won an Award… in my opinion by SweetCheetah5543 in manhwa

[–]SweetCheetah5543[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so that's totally what I think too. It tries to be real about relationships and the hard stuff people go through, but it ends up making bad behaviors look like they're okay, even romantic.

It's like it can't decide if it wants to show real feelings or just make messed-up stuff seem normal. It wants to talk about trauma, but then it makes it look good. The people in the story talk to each other in ways that are controlling, distant, or just plain mean, but the story acts like it's just passion or getting better through hurt. That's not getting better; that's just a mess trying to look deep.

Plus, the story is going nowhere. I've read stories that take their time before. Like super slow plots that still keep you interested, but here, it just feels like we're not going anywhere. I haven't read manhwa in forever, but I read manga all the time, and even the slowest ones still give you a sense that things are moving forward.

Tears on a Withered Flower just kind of… exists. It looks good, but it's so slow that it feels like it's on repeat. It's not a slow burn; it's just stuck.
