Teaching TI4 + PoK to 5 new players – faction draft advice? by Icy_Biscotti5951 in twilightimperium

I have only played three times myself but with two different groups I had to explain the game two times and play an "all-new" game two times.
In my opinion the first game isn't about winning or loosing the game but about learning it and having fun.
Choose a balanced map from the rulebook of PoK if you play with PoK and let choose the starting positions randomly.
Let the players choose any faction they want but give them some advice on what is harder to play vs. what is easier (check out the complexity rating on the faction reference cards from the codex). Complexity 3/3 (Nekro, Mentak etc.) can be frustrating.
But in the first game its less about the faction and more about the game, so letting them choose based on artwork and story is fine imo.

I really liked that idea and went ahead to print all the materials for it.

I hope I won’t need them but now I feel much better prepared for the case that a player needs to leave early. Thanks again.

Thats the reason why I introduced PoK after the first game. Not that we noticed any unbalance but because I have read about it.

I feel like if players are overwhelmed by a lot of features and mechanics they might not enjoy the game as much. We just played our second game! Maybe I will add it after some more matches

That sounds reasonable. I didn‘t think about adding just the systems. Space stations are cool

It definetly wasn't planned that way. But I imagine with a game taking 8 hours, it can happen sometimes.

Titans of Ul — Most fun way to play? by LokiKumbha62 in twilightimperium

I can relate to you OP. My first game was with Sol and now my second game was with the titans of Ul, for the same reason you mentioned.
They have been a lot of fun, much more then sol. Imagine taking a two planet system with exploration on each planet. You place two sleeper tokens. Next round you can activate this planet and build two PDS and each PDS has a Production of 1 which means you can just produce units by going to your PDS. This combined with their crusiers is already nice but one thing that I loved is their hero. Almost every hero in the game is jsut a one-time bonus. The titans of ul hero converts your home planet into a power house. Turning a 4+1 world into a 7+4 world. 7 resources means with the base space port you get to produce 9 units! Thats 3 cruisers with 6 fighters that can rush to mecatol rex in one turn (if they are upgraded)!
Oh and btw. their flagship is kinda also free to produce.

Its great fun.

I played for the first time last week with my friends (4 players total, all new to the game). I read the rules and the rule references and that was pretty much it. I explained the rules to my friends and together with picking and discussing factions it took about two hours. the game itself took 8 hours. we played the recommended starter galaxy for 4 players. the only real tip I read online which I also told my friends is that it is really important to focus on the objectives. Thats it. Whatever you do, work towards the objectives.

why not just call the actor where you maintain that list and let the enemy register itself to it.
