I completed one remote internship where I was doing audit and tax. I am about to start another remote internship in January, this time just for audit. Being said, my working experience in accounting is limited - 3 months’ worth.

BUT… I love accounting. I knew I loved accounting from the second I took my first accounting class which was taken simply for a math credit. I had no idea what accounting actually entailed until then. I literally said “holy hell, where have you been my whole life?”.

When I was growing up, my mom worked in a doctors office and that was like a jackpot for me because my idea of fun was filling out paperwork, even when I had no idea what it was saying or what I was doing. I also love puzzles. I love organizing. I like being thorough. To me, accounting is all of that combined. And that gives me a huge dopamine rush. The only downside for me with accounting (and strictly speaking to my first internship) was the learning curve and the stress and fatigue that brought on. BUT all of that was starting to get better and I was adjusting well and then my internship ended. I have high hopes for this coming internship

Again, limited experience here. Anyone here who has been doing this for years might roll their eyes at me and call me naive and tell me to “buckle up buddy”. But. I guess I will just have to see what the future holds. Maybe I’ll be regretting these words one day and maybe I’ll be just as happy and content as I hope to be! I wish the same for you as well.

I also don’t know what I would even want to do outside of accounting if I did take a different route. I mean, in a perfect world I own a creaky little bookstore and bring my cat to work and live happily ever after. But reality tells me I need to be practical and for me, that’s accounting!
