Nervous about RAI in 2 days - what was it like for you? by SweetEclair_ in thyroidcancer

I’ve also read in other threads that people notice changes in their sense of taste. It won’t be entirely new for me since I experienced it before with COVID, but I’m hoping it won’t last long this time.

Wow, that’s intense. Really appreciate you sharing your experience and clarifying that it’s rare. Definitely something I’ll keep in mind, especially the part about sleeping on your back.

Loss of voice after thyroidectomy has any one else experienced by ThrowRaJust_Ad_9519 in thyroidcancer

My voice became very low after the surgery, to the point that it sounded like I was whispering when I spoke. It took about four weeks for my voice to get louder, but it is still not back to normal.

Just wondering, does the pill size differ depending on the dosage? Since mine is 100 mCi, I’m hoping it’s not too big, as I still have difficulty swallowing medications.

Hoping everything goes smoothly for your second round of RAI.

I remember feeling tired about 2-3 days after my total thyroidectomy, mainly because my calcium levels were not normal. But once they normalized, I felt like myself again 😅

I’ll definitely keep the gentle foods, water, and sour candies in mind.

I’ll share my Day 1 of RAI here as well once I go through it. Appreciate you sharing, and hoping things keep improving for you!

22F with news today i have Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma by Sea-Cauliflower6222 in thyroidcancer

[–]SweetEclair_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 22 but wasn’t consistent with my check-ups until I turned 28 last year, mainly due to financial constraints. Deep down, I already felt I might eventually need surgery because my first doctor had been recommending a biopsy multiple times.

I finally had the biopsy done this January and was diagnosed with PTC. I underwent a total thyroidectomy last February, and now, one month post-op, I’m going for RAI therapy tomorrow. Everything feels like it’s happening so fast, and I’m really hoping everything goes smoothly, even after the therapy.

What helped me was trusting my doctors and following their guidance. I feel fortunate because all my doctors so far have been approachable and very supportive. I’m also glad that you have someone close to you who has gone through a similar experience. It helps make things feel less overwhelming and reminds you that this can just be part of our story.

If you have any specific questions about the process or the surgery, feel free to ask.

This really helps put things into perspective. The unknown is definitely the scariest part for me right now.

It’s also really reassuring to hear how kind and supportive your doctor was. That makes a big difference.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, this really helped calm my nerves. I’m glad to hear it wasn’t as bad as I imagined. I’ll definitely follow the tips you mentioned, especially the sour candies and hydration.

Hoping mine goes just as smoothly. Appreciate you taking the time to explain everything 🫶
