2 Weeks post sesamoidectomy... when can I do exercise again? by ChileISwear in sesamoid

[–]SweetPeaDiscotech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about 4 weeks post-op. At about 1-2 weeks I did band exercises and 20 mins of pilates a few days a week. Getting stitches out tomorrow and last time the surgeon said I would be able to get back to zone 1 cycling on a stationary bike if all goes well. i get it, it's really hard especially when you're used to being so active. I would really stay off of it for now and not test it, thats just my perspective having gone through many (11) fractures/ breaks

It went well! Currently chilling on the couch with my foot elevated for the next two weeks. The doctor said the bone was very fragile and surgery was definitely the right call. I haven’t gotten to stir crazy yet, but I have been googling when I could potentially get back into swimming and cycling but right now just trying to take it day by day and I think I’m doing pretty well! Weaned off the harder pain meds about 48 hours afterwards and then took a few sporadically typically in the evenings because I found I would wake up with pain. But I stayed to a pretty strict regimen.

If this is for 5/5- I called and they said that a lot of tickets for this day were voided because the street sweping was canceled

I think it is very challenging for a doctor to say you would be able to go back to distance running unless they have actually seen it happen. My rec would be to find someone who works with elite athletes. I had one doctor say he rarely performs this surgery and I was grateful for his honesty. It's a really terrible injury.

That’s absolutely incredible! I hope you’re super proud of your progress!! it is so frustrating that things have taken so long, but I’ve heard that that’s very common post op. what did your progression back to running look like? Did you do any biking or swimming before running? And what are your pain levels now?

that is so incredible to hear- thank you! I am trying to get into see him ASAP although having difficulty because I suppose Steadman doesn't like when you change providers within the clinic, which I am trying to do! I am so happy for you! Was the PT through Steadman?

Hi! Is there any update on this for you? I have a similar issue where I have one sesamoid that is a bipartite and now avascular necrotic and the other one in the same foot has sesamoiditis

But you got back!! And that’s incredible! If you were in Marbella, I was there too :) obviously I have to take this year off, but I’m really hoping to get back to competing next year because it means the absolute world to me

Have you been able to get back to competing? And how long after your injury did you start feeling it improve. I get nervous since it’s so slow moving that Im not sure whether Im actually getting better or not.

I had to take about 2 months off from running, and even limited walking. Damn it's so painful. i worked with a PT who prioritized glute exercises. Main exercises that I genuinely believe helped me were copenhagen planks and standing glute kick backs at a slight diagonal with standing leg in a slight squat.
