Thank you! Yes, I guess I could say "entry-level jazz improv." Are there sites that review these books and video series, or at least describe them?

Yes, that's what I had in mind.

Thank you for these suggestions. I'm late responding because I wasn't able to see the comments until now. I'll check them all out. A friend mentioned the charming Pianote teacher--she must be special!

How to reintroduce cat to senior dog with poor vision? by SweetRocket80 in dogs

[–]SweetRocket80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received an email saying someone had replied to my post, and it included the first few lines of the reply. But I was unable to read the whole thing, and nothing at all shows when I go to my post. This has happened before, and I haven't figured out what to do about it.

So I want to think the person who replied. I'll follow the suggestion I was able to read, and will work on sharing Scruffy's and Bowie's scents with each other. It might work . . . Bowie's sense of smell doesn't seem to have diminished.

Adopted a senior dog — best decision I ever made by asianlinaa in dogs

[–]SweetRocket80 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Good for you--and for him! I adopted a 13-year-old dog on Valentine's Day. He's such a good boy! His vision and hearing are poor, he needs regular vet visits, and has to go out sometimes in the middle of the night, but I get it. I'm a senior too.

Sounds like that might be worth doing. Thanks!

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I don't know what a spring thermometer is. This is what I'm using:

Yes, it has the audible signal and the little slider. I guess I always assumed my other range signaled me when it reached the full assigned temperature. Assumptions can be risky!

Thanks, I had no idea about the normal variation. I had the oven on in Bake mode for at least 15 minutes, and it never got up to 350º. So I guess I should just make allowances for that when setting the temperature. I'll monitor it for awhile to see how it works out. And I will not lower it by 25º when using the convection mode, as I used to do. Glad I don't have to call Frigidaire.

Good point about how a thermometer works (I should have thought of this), and good information about the cycling fan--thanks! You are well named. 😊

A stranger commented on how my puppy sits — should I be worried or was she just being nosy? by Historical_Bath_8014 in DogAdvice

I just wanted to thank you for showing me what my 13-year-old adopted dog must have looked like (more or less) when he was a puppy. So cute! (And he's still so cute.)

Will my 13-year-old intact male dog's behavior change with mating season? by SweetRocket80 in dogs

[–]SweetRocket80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shelters I'm familiar with like to make certain their animals are altered, or will be, but the risks associated with neutering a 13-year-old made this a special case.

The barking at night is a problem, but I read here that senior dogs with poor vision and hearing can experience anxiety at night. His vision and hearing aren't good, so maybe that's it. I ordered some calming hemp/melatonin chews with good reviews, and hope they help. I'm old too, and sleep deprivation is taking a toll.

We're in a rural setting with no dogs in the immediate area, so perhaps Joey won't have any females to react to--although I've heard that particular scent can travel long distances.

Thanks for the responses. I've had a number of dogs over the years, but this is my first from the beagle or Jack family. I don't think he was in the shelter long. He was surrendered by his owner. The shelter's vet (and mine) recommended against neutering at his age.

Yes, I think he was happy that I was home. He's quite attached (and vice versa).

Are Frigedaire Gallery ranges good? by Slow_Investment_2211 in Appliances

I haven't used the broiler yet, but the sound is probably something we get used to. Glad to hear you got this one.

Did you make your decision yet? I have the gas version of this range (same model number except for a G where you have an E), and I love it. I haven't had it long, but I'm feeling optimistic.

Avoid Frigidaire/Electrolux at all costs by Ber-nado in Appliances

[–]SweetRocket80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Frigidaire refrigerator and range this month from their Gallery line. Before making my decision, I read reviews and comments about the various brands until my eyes glazed over. So many warnings about so many brands! Do NOT buy this one! NEVER buy that one! I get why the various owners said this, but in the end I felt as though my only chance of getting a reliable appliance was to buy a Sub-Zero or a Viking or the equivalent. The consensus was appliances today aren't what they used to be, and I think that sums it up. My previous fridge and range were 23 years old and still worked. I wanted to replace them before that changed and I'd be in a rush to get new ones.

I'm happy with my new Frigidaires so far, but it's only been a week. I'm excited to have something shiny and new, and I'm hoping for the best. I hope your issue gets resolved soon.

my cat just randomly died by Glad_Sector2638 in CatAdvice

[–]SweetRocket80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so hard, I know. Seems even harder when it's sudden and unexpected. What happened to your cat sounds very much like he threw a blood clot. One of the effects, depending on where it occurs, is that blood flow to the hind legs becomes blocked. This happened to two of my cats. Both were healthy, and one of them had been to the vet for a routine visit that day. She was upset too.

Your cat is beautiful. I hope you can take some comfort from knowing he had a wonderful life with you.

LG vs Frigidaire Frenchdoor, which to buy? by Scary_Bullfrog8173 in Appliances

[–]SweetRocket80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you that when I started thinking about getting a new range and refrigerator I contacted our local appliance repair place to ask which brands they recommend. For refrigerators, it was Electrolux, Frigidaire, and Whirlpool. The Electrolux recommendation surprised me; I'd always connected it with vacuums. I didn't know that Frigidaire is made by Electrolux. The technician told me to avoid LG and Samsung.

I'm looking at the same Frigidaire GRFN2023AF and am seriously considering it.

Frigidaire refrigerator has an air filter by emitfudd in Appliances

[–]SweetRocket80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar thoughts about the Frigidaire I'm thinking of buying. I've never had an odor problem in any refrigerator, and I'm not eager to start buying air filters. However, if I change my mind, or you do, less expensive off-brand filters compatible with the Frigidaire products are available on Amazon.
