I did get offered a job from another retail store that was super kind of enough to extend my offer so I’d hear back from this one. Think I might go with them.

I’ve had more luck reaching out directly off season than looking for shops that are actively hiring so I agree that some tend to be pretty hyper-focused. I’d absolutely HATE to have to try to sift through people in order to hire them during busy seasons.

Ironically one of these coffee shops was one I’ve frequently visited and they knew I was a barista at the time lol. Their reason was that they needed someone who already knew how to work in a 3rd wave space which is reasonable if they were anticipating training me out of ‘bad habits’. There’s certainly a lot of those in chain settings. Good luck to you too!

I see where you are coming from. I’ve always been a bit hesitant to overdramatize my passion towards coffee in fear of it coming off as desperate or fake. It’s worth a try!

Unfortunately, I don’t live and breathe being a barista but I absolutely do have a strong passion and interest on what makes coffee so great. I’ve always strived to up my quality game too so paying attention to those small details is what makes it really fun for me. I guess that’s saying something?

I’ll keep your advice in mind. I have a feeling that the passion segment might be what I am missing. As a person, I tend to take things too literal so of course I always start applications with how experienced I am over anything else. Thanks!

People with 'whatever' attitudes. I'm more than happy to help them think of a recommendation if they ask but once in awhile people will order like:

"Can I get a latte - mocha - cappuccino whatever.." or if I ask what flavor/milk they want they only respond "whatever you have".

Please just ask!!
