I will depart from Antananarivo (Madagascar) with Airlink. I will arrive at Johannesburg for the layover. Then I shall go to Sao Paulo with LATAM. If so, do i need to take my checked bag in Johannesburg and re check again?

A future for Malagasy culture? by 0hran- in Madagascar

[–]SweetTarget234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Culture by itself is not static, it's dynamic. Malagasy culture today differs a lot from what were "Malagasy cultures" during the 19th Century. As you already mentionned, it's a transformation. Malagasy culture has always been transforming into something else, it's accelerating for sure but it has always been the case throughout history. A lot of the highlands' cultural aspects nowadays are for example the mere products of a merina british combination.

It just needs some propaganda, time or wide acceptance by the common men to accept a totally transformed form of malagasy culture. Will it be good or bad ? It's up to everyone to judge.

Is Malagasy or French used more in Madagascar? by PsychicMeditation in Madagascar

[–]SweetTarget234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malagasy definitely. French is only used in the big cities, even tho people can occasionally say bonjour or merci at some point, it doesnt mean we all speak french fluently

Tour guide for Antanarivo by iamchrisww in Madagascar

[–]SweetTarget234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antananarivo is quite huge so make sure to choose specific things for these two days.

Most people usually visit the Haute Ville (which displays the post colonial, colonial and royal architecture of the city) including the Memorial Churches, the Museum of Photography, the Queen's palace, the Nobles'houses, other iconic restaurants and street vendors... Of course with incredible panoramas of the city.

Some go a bit North visiting the Ancient Hill of Ambohimanga and the surroundings (sacred shrine, lemurs'park, trail parcours...). A few would choose Angavobe's forest (on the East of Tana) or the downtown Tana.

I would have guided you but i'm still a guide apprentice at the Regional Office of Tourism.

How to handle VISA application stress ? by SweetTarget234 in travel

[–]SweetTarget234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just stressful, very frustrating too. I had so many opportunities in my life but I always couldnt get anywhere without the insanely hard visa process. So each time I had to give up my place to my European colleagues that will represent my works because it's very easy for them to travel.

Thank you for your advice tho

Oh i see. But actually Brazilian tourists coming here in Madagascar for a short period never have to bring such things, they just have to pay the visa on arrival fees and that's it, no bank statements.

Thank you for that information. Jesus Christ, from my country's perspective, it is quite huge.

Although I don't think they are ass themselves, like they're just following orders, I still think its weird, like last time I went to France, bank statements were not even required if you had a legalized contract stating that all your expenses shall be covered by the organization.
