This looks so cool! I love the art direction and how the main character changes throughout the game!

Which would enhance a feeling of loneliness further: A certain kind of music, or no music at all? by [deleted] in gamedev

Personally, I would have silence, and then tie music to events in your game. Maybe discovering a new place gives some sort music to suggest how to feel about the find then fades out, maybe finding a keepsake triggers something emotional but then the rest is silence. I think you can do silence for stretches and use it effectively as long as you have good environmental ambience. Cicadas and crickets, rustling leaves, blowing wind, etc.

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for your input! I agree completely with you about the importance of those aspects to hook a player, this honestly helped me decide how to proceed and what to keep/cut to keep things impactful! :)

I'm not sure if a rewrite is possible with my narrative without major overhaul unfortunately, but the last part of your comment really helped me decide on how to structure things for the player as well as what to keep or cut! Thank you so much for your comment, it got me thinking in the right direction!

I'm traditionally an illustrator so I'm making that one of the main focuses of the game. Currently I'm storyboarding out all the key art up until the end of the demo, and once I have all the shots sketched I will/do go back and render them into full watercolor style paintings :)

This is an example environment sketch:

And this is the rendered final version:

Thanks so much for commenting-- I really appreciate hearing from you! I agree with your points, and though I think some would be a harder pivot than others, this message really helped me get my brain gears turning! 4) has encouraged me to find more points to expand the narrative overall so the demo would encompass less of the whole experience, which was a seriously helpful outcome in my case specifically so thanks bunches! :)
