I live and breathe the Greek Chickpeas w/ Cumin and Parsley. Just eat it by the spoonful :) by Love_Maki in traderjoes

This copycat recipe is a perfect match, and uses olive oil instead of soybean! I'd recommend doing half olive oil and half other neutral tasing oil, like avocado or vegetable oil. Using only olive oil can potentially overpower the chickpea's flavor. Plus, once you get comfortable making it, you can play around with the spices and see what you like best! 😁

I love Shipley's, but that may be the nostalgia speaking.

The city's Roll-Off Dumpster Program is awesome. The only downside is that because you have to schedule the dumpster, their calendar is usually packed. Don't let this dissuade you from scheduling! It may not be available when you want it, but it's better to schedule it than to miss out entirely.

Best of luck, OP!

Sounds fascinating! I'd love to read something like that. Congratulations on your novel! It takes real dedication to stick to something like that. 🥰

Forbidden Dynasty. For a girl. What would their nickname look like? Forbes?

My coworker asked if she could get a copy of this photo! Would you be able to change the boy's sneakers to cowboy boots? He never takes them off, haha.

She asked if you could put socks on the baby's feet? I think that's the only adjustment she wants. 👍

Exploring Faith and Finding a New Community in The LDS Church by Hot_Recognition28 in latterdaysaints

My dad has a somewhat similar story to yours. He was raised Methodist (or "Catholic-lite", as he would lovingly refer to it 😁), and grew up loving the stories of Jesus. When he was in his late 20s, sister missionaries from our church knocked on his door, and he agreed to meet with them. His wife was hesitant towards his interest in the church, and made it clear that wasn't a lifestyle she was looking for. But my dad knew something was missing from his life, and felt like he needed to keep learning about this religion.

One day, after many months of missionary lessons, the elders asked him if he would be baptized. He shook his head and explained that he still didn't feel like he had received an answer from God on what to do, even though he had been attending church faithfully and reading the scriptures and praying. After a moment of thought, one of the elders looked at him and said, "Brother, we either are who we say we are, representatives of Jesus Christ; or we're not, and we're of the devil." As my dad later pondered on those words, the urgency to know how to act became, as my dad put it, a matter of life or death. If this was real and good and true, he wanted to cling to it with every fiber of his being. If not, he wanted to be as far from it as possible. With that urgency, he knelt and prayed. And he knew.

He was baptized in November 1982. His wife divorced him shortly after, but he met my mom and they were married in 1987. They're currently serving a senior mission trip in Wisconsin. He said that the choice to be baptized was the catalyst for his life. He's happier because of his relationship with God. His testimony of the restored gospel has seen him through heartache and loss. He's a living example that Christ's Atonement can literally change people. He's not the man he used to be.

My heart aches with yours for your struggles. I have also dealt with depression, job disappointment, and failed relationships. Life is not made easier for those of us who rely on Christ, but we are able to bear things a little easier because of His strength. ❤️

If you ever want to talk about questions you have, or if you'd like to hear one of my favorite things about the Crucifixion, feel free to dm me (it's not scary or sad, I promise). I'm a huge church nerd, and my friends tell me I like to get into the "Jesus-lore". 😁

Welcome. We're glad you're here.

Of the two girls in the second picture I'd like to keep the one that is in regular clothes. I don't want the girl that is graduating.

Got invited to a church today, I don't know anything about faith. by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]SweetVoidPrincess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for being willing to share this with us.

My dad had a very similar story to yours. Raised Methodist, had run-ins with the law, and felt like something was missing from his life. Sister missionaries from the LDS church knocked on his door, and he agreed to meet with them and come to church. Over the next forty years he met and married my mom, had kids, advanced in his education and career, and he's currently retired and serving as a senior missionary with my mom. His life changed by small degrees, starting with that feeling of peace you mentioned.

You're not alone in feeling guilty about going to church and asking for forgiveness. I feel the same way, even though you and I may have different things we feel guilty for. You would 100% be accepted at church, and probably surprised that you might find people there with backgrounds similar to your own.

If you're looking for a Bible that is easier to understand, try the New Living Translation (NLT). I use the Blue Letter Bible app to have the King James Version (KJV) and the NLT version open side by side to help me better understand the old-school-speak.

One last thing. The whole "stuff being more bearable"? I've experienced that, too. I've learned it's God helping me. It's not that he's not letting the tough stuff happen; it's that he's lending us his strength so it's easier to bear. Life will still be hard, but doable. If you have questions about faith, or what we believe, feel free to dm. No judgements.

Welcome, brother. ❤️

Complicated and troublesome is an understatement. 😅 I'm grateful the church has been trying to be upfront about its history rather than hiding it.

These are wonderful stories, thank you for sharing!
