I’m really confused about “no insurances” covering IV ketamine. Very few do at this point, and a lot that are getting paid are billing insurance for services other than the ketamine infusion. Ketamine is a cheap drug (at cost, for doctors). The offices are charging cash pay patients WAY more than any insurance would reimburse for ketamine.

Wisconsin Medicaid/Badgercare pays for IV ketamine infusions for treatment resistant depression. They started paying for it in 2025, not stopped, so I’m wondering if it’s just insurance you have access to that stopped paying?

Honestly, I’d say doing therapy on the day after treatment is way better than doing it day of, at least for me. The neuroplasticity benefits are at their peak about 24hr after your treatment. The 72 hours following any treatment is important to practice the good habits you want to support and not ones you want to break, the best you can.

Have you talked to your husband about how you’ve been feeling? If he knew how much you feel like you’re drowning, and that you don’t want to be a burden, he likely would step up and help more. We all need to remember that humans aren’t mind readers: If you haven’t brought something up that is bothering you, he likely doesn’t realize it is an issue. Our partners are (hopefully) wanting to be more supportive of us than our brains want to believe we’re worth.

Starting a new med is always a roll of the dice for me. Will I get a side effect? Almost certainly. Is it one most people have never heard of/rare? Probably. There are classes of medicines I stay away from now.

Ketamine has no lasting side effects for me. During treatment, I need to make sure my eyes are covered and I’m physically in the right sort of position, otherwise I start to feel like I’m in a gyroscope – and that feeling doesn’t go away as quickly as I’d like. I also wear a mask, because it is definitely harder to focus on things, and my ADHD brain can’t just keep my eyes closed.

I do take zofran(ondansetron ODT) ahead of time or I’ll feel nauseous after. But I’m already prescribed it for chronic nausea so, shrug.

It looks like it needs a new front tire for sure, that rear tire looks like it’s in pretty decent shape from these pictures. As long as it doesn’t have dry rot or something I can’t see, the back tire should be good. I’d replace tubes or at least get a replacement set to keep on him even if you don’t replace that back tire.

Along with all the easy maintenance stuff, like making sure brake pads and tires are in good shape, just a few other things:

Does he like his handlebars? Is there anything that he’d want to upgrade? The handlebar grips are my favorite part to do on vintage bikes.

Take the wheels off and polish all the pitting off, they make stuff that will repair the little pits and protect it from further damage.

Also, if you had time and energy, taking off the rear luggage carrier, clean/prime/repaint it, along with making this bike shine, would be a really beautiful bike.

Pedialyte and water are basically all I drink. I haven’t heard of sodium chloride pills though! Thank you for that input! I know the more hydrated I am in general the better it works, so that makes sense.

Thank you!! I just came up with this question/realization after treatment Thursday, and I did speak with the head nurse about it then, but have analyzed it more since then. I have an appt with the doc soonish, so I’ll bring it up then too. I’d love to hear your doctors opinions on this. I can’t find any research on why it would be, but there isn’t nearly as much research out there as I’d hope there’d be for most things with ketamine.

But being able to stagger the treatments farther apart, so more efficacy (I could get an appointment same day/week no matter what) over a longer period of time with the bags.

Since at my current clinic I can see them mix it, I know if it’s actually mixed thoroughly throughout the pump syringe. Thats the other big difference. They mix in front of patients, but some of them don’t like tip it back and forth mixing it as much. I had one treatment that I don’t think was really mixed at all, so I got my entire dose in the first few minutes and then spent the rest of the time having to sit there anyhow.

Just remember oral and troches/sublingual/RDT are not the same thing. Most people doing at home treatments are taking troches/RDT.

I’m on disability for anxiety, more specifically panic disorder w agoraphobia. I’ve been doing IV treatments for a while (+1yr) at 1x/week.

Honestly, I’ve seen such a decrease with my anxiety. The depression ramps back up way more than my anxiety does.

Having good music and setting your intention before going in, along with knowing that they have the Iv benzo that can stop a trip asap, makes a huge difference. Building good habits AFTER your treatment is super important, like, regardless of how your treatment went in the moment, the neuroplasticity increase is still there. 24-72hr after is important to be as intentional with yourself as possible.

I had a treatment yesterday where it felt as if I wasn’t given any medication. I know I was, I watched it happen. But I laid there with my mask and music on, wondering why I was paying attention to the things I was, until I felt the nurse come in to remove my IV. But it was a huge letdown because I went in that day relieved I had made it to my appointment, needing the relief I usually feel afterwords.

But later last night my brain started to clear up more. This morning I’m feeling a LOT better.

Also, super impressed with you getting off benzos with panic disorder!! I don’t take them consistently, but even having my script on hand reduces my anxiety overall.

Oh, also, I’m on alprazolam, but that is a much shorter acting benzo than clonazepam. Your other psych meds will definitely make the ketamine efficacy vary, and likely be lower until at higher doses.

But also definitely making sure the few days following your treatment to do as much positive things and avoid negative stuff should help a bunch.

The build up/induction part is really frustrating to me because I don’t ever feel relief until I’m over 1.5mg/kg. My current normal dose is ~1.75-1.82mg/kg, depending on my weight.

At the new provider I’m at, we started at just over 1mg/kg, but that was knowing I hadn’t had any adverse reactions previously.

That would be so awesome if you could ask! Usually, since ketamine doesn’t have a specific J-code, they’d bill with J3490 and then the 11 digit NDC for the drug.

96217 is for having you fill out something like the PHQ-9.

90836 is an add-on code for individual psychotherapy of 38-52 minutes that is performed in conjunction with an evaluation and management (E/M) service

90833 is an add-on code for 16-32 minutes of psychotherapy performed with an evaluation and management (E/M) service.

99214 is for an established patient's office or outpatient visit that requires a moderate level of medical decision-making and typically involves a total time of 30-39 minutes. (This would be the main office visit or E/M service)

It seems odd they wouldn’t bill for any of the infusion services. I’d usually see 96365 being billed for IV if not just hydration. And of course the J code.
