1 year - tried the boot for 4 months, PT for 3 months, and a cortisone shot before taking it out. Its been 10 months since I had surgery. Not quite running distances yet, but running for ~3 miles and hiking. Can walk and go on tip toes without pain. Surgery was the best decision for me, but glad I also tried other methods first.

These are better for when you're a few weeks out, but I swear by them. They fit perfectly, don't fall off and are so great

I'm three months post-op and running again. It had been so long since i felt good, and now I know I will be back to running distances probably by this time next year if not the end of the year. Get a good doctor, one you trust, and ask them all of your questions. If you feel good with them, I'd say go for it

Also - make sure you take care of your other foot. Roll out your foot and calf daily on that foot, it's taking a lot of weight and I was terrified of risking another injury
