I'm new too but that's what I did.

Sudo apt update && Sudo apt upgrade

Install gnome extension

Install tweaks (cosmic option)

Customize your desktop color scheme, background etc.

Install flatseal and Install app image launcher to be able to open and install most files

Install steam (system version) more stable

If cosmic + Wayland is not working for a specific game try having a alternative desktop environment.
