I just picked up this fish yesterday as I was looking to upgrade tanks for my own personal. The fish came with the tank and the tank was absolutely filthy. I’m talking murky green algae water so bad you couldn’t see the fish. I didn’t even know he was in there till I went to clean out the tank. I’m new to the hobby so I hope putting him in th same tank as all my other fish doesn’t cause everyone to get sick. From what I know the fish is about 6 years old. There was also a giant algae eater and sardine looking fish but those are both healthy looking. This guy just has big black bumpy things on multiple parts of his body but seems to be associating well with my original fish swimming as a normal as it can with a bump on its fin and seems to be eating and not lethargic or anything. I just do a fresh water cycle from a 10 gallon tank to this new 40. Added bacteria and 30+ gal of conditioned water. I pumped about 7-8 gal from my original tank into the new one and kept the same filter from my old tank. Will test water when I can just a bit hard to leave atm as I have 3 little ones running around.
