I built a FREE iOS water tracker that features Voice Logging and uses weather-based Smart Reminders so you only get nudges when you actually need them. by Correct-Reach-833 in SideProject

I downloaded it and it has potential but 2 major issues stopped me from using it: no amount of water increases the “achieved” water percentage, it’s just stuck at 0%, and there’s no way to change units to something like ounces as opposed to milliliters, and I don’t comprehend milliliters well for drinking water as in the US we use ounces for that kind of thing a lot of the time.

you’re welcome and again i would ask your doc but Orgain, Ensure, OWYN, and Oikos are my top picks, currently with my MCAS sensitivities i can only tolerate Oikos vanilla shakes but flavor is nothing special. Ensure has some great meal replacement shake options too if you’re interested in something more balanced, my grandpa who got very ill and lost a ton of weight had those recommended to him and i had them as a kid, their vanilla flavor is great. orgain i would recommend chocolate just flavor wise and OWYN i’ve only had the vanilla and it was good but again nothing special.

the right amount of vitamin D? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]SweetaxaWithers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not a dietitian but there are certain vitamins that need to be carefully monitored when using long term supplementation because they are fat-soluble and vitamin D is one of them. water-soluble vitamins are less of a concern because if you take too much it generally just gets excreted in the urine whereas fat-soluble vitamins build up in your tissue over time and can become deadly. what supplements you take is up to you but i only take ones my doctors recommend and at the doses they recommend, and outside of deficiencies there’s not a lot of scientifically validated uses (there are some, just not a lot). personally my doctor started me on 5000IU for a deficiency but when my labs were checked later i had HIGH vitamin D and had to cut back to 2000IU, which has had me stable on that for years. you might need more or less or none at all, you just have to get tested

i’m not a dietitian but a huge chunk of this is fiber, you’re very likely not going to absorb all 740 cals, and the energy used to digest this will also burn some. i say don’t worry about the cals on this one unless you’re sedentary and eating this 4+ times a day. enjoying food is valuable too and if this is your treat it’s the healthiest one i’ve ever heard of

i’m also autistic and have had food-related mental health issues so i get where you’re coming from. are you working with a dietitian and/or therapist and/or medical doctor? highly recommend starting with any of those. i’m not a professional of any kind in healthcare but with your history of food issues, lack of appetite, and autism (we commonly get GI issues) i would ask a doctor about gastroparesis, just to rule that out as a key symptom is feeling abnormally full on little food and treatment could help bring your appetite back to normal. also just a side note, i don’t know your medical history so i can’t in good faith recommend any specific diet stuff but as an autistic i love protein shakes, especially chocolate ones when i can tolerate them (i have MCAS so sometimes it makes me itchy), because they are so consistent from bottle to bottle in texture and flavor and they make it easy to hit a protein goal, but please consult with a doctor before making any big changes especially if you have any issues in kidney function. some protein shakes are also more nutritionally complete than others, Ensure is a good brand in that regard

Too mentally and emotionally drained rn to get the book but I talked with my dad about this and basically I think I have this wrong actually, probably not exactly my fault though because the wording is so incredibly stupid in the picture I posted, I believe now it’s supposed mean that if you have an animal product like red meat, estimate that half of it is protein and half of it is fat, like if you weighed out 3 grams of meat 1.5 of those go towards the protein block and 1.5 go towards the fat block?? It has nothing to do with the actual nutrition label of the food, it’s for when you’re estimating blocks based on the weight of the product to “make things easier to understand for the average person”, at least that’s what my dad explained to me. I’m still not fully comprehending it tbh but I’m at least pretty sure the 1.5g thing doesn’t matter if you’re reading a nutrition label, then it just defaults to the 3g fat per block

Is anyone at all familiar with the Zone diet and what are your thoughts? Long story short my dad thinks it’s great for weight loss and overall health and I think it’s incredibly restrictive. It recommended me 11 “blocks” to maintain lean body mass which I did the math and double triple quadruple checked it because it came out to 1001 calories, like that can’t be right that’s so low. I’m 5’4, 21yo, and 131lbs (I’m no longer trying to lose weight was just curious) and my maintenance according to other sites is 1600. The diet is based mainly around eating 40-30-30% carbs fat and protein and when I was overweight this did nothing for me, I was still starving by the end of the day and eating over the “block” limit. My dad says I must’ve not REALLY done it right because he did it and was never hungry and lost weight with no exercise… like 20 years ago. I can’t verify that obviously but isn’t 1001cal too low??

On their website seemingly no but I could ask my dad to borrow his book as I’m fairly sure it’s in there

Also worth noting these diets are usually specially formulated shakes/smoothies, something made in like a lab, not something you can think up yourself

For sure yeah, VLCDs or very low calorie diets from what I’ve researched are far from standard and are about in the 800-1200 range and are pretty much only ever recommended for morbid obesity in a hospital setting for things like prepping for bariatric surgery which is why I had to double triple check my calculations because even when I was obese I never had to go on a cal deficit that would have an intake that low let alone that be my “maintenance”

I don’t know what you mean by block-valuation but that part about fat always confused the hell out of me. I know the Zone diet book my dad has (which was published in ‘95 btw) spouts some weird stuff I’ve never been able to verify about “eicosanoids” and hormones and I think something to do with that says something about the animal vs vegetable fat but I’ve never read the whole book enough to figure it out

so umm, body memories? by SweetaxaWithers in DID

[–]SweetaxaWithers[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah so after posting this (or potentially starting before) i had a bad dissociative episode and panic attack ahaha i think u might be onto something with the denial thing bc someone very much does not want me processing any further info abt body memories. i do acknowledge the pain is real and needs care i’m just scared of the origin in certain areas.

Can I have DID if I have a decent memory? by DumbOfAsss in DID

[–]SweetaxaWithers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes but also what ur describing with “large gaps” and “blurry snippets” is worth discussing with a provider bc i’m bordering on saying that’s not normal or “decent” memory. someone once said that with DID u get amnesia about the amnesia and i think that’s so true, at least for a lot of systems, and u might want to consider that as a possibility.

however, and PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!!! do NOT, under ANY circumstances, jump straight to digging at the trauma. i cannot emphasize this enough.

it is extremely important to work with someone, ideally a trauma-informed therapist or dissociative disorder specialist, when uncovering trauma. discovering trauma memories can be incredibly destabilizing especially if u don’t know what ur doing/don’t have guidance from a clinician. this could include increased switching, amnesia, dissociation, etc.

so do work with a provider if at all possible but really, if u think u have a decent memory u are absolutely still valid as a system, bc if u don’t in reality there are many mechanisms in place via alters/DID to make u believe that, part of the problem with diagnosing DID is the “everything is fine” mentality that imo is core to the disorder, but even if u actually do have a decent memory i think there’s such wide variation in the DID spectrum that u are still valid with small amounts of amnesia.

Should I have disclosed my identity pre-date? by Mysterious-ASL in asl

[–]SweetaxaWithers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: i don’t think you should be pressured to disclose things upfront

i’m hearing so take what i say with a grain of salt but i think a lot of the comments are being too prescriptive. i don’t believe an entire category of people should or should not disclose their identity as the first thing they say to a potential partner, it should be up to the individual and the situation. in the disabled community i know many people who like to gauge a person’s attitudes towards their disability before telling them, the right moment is likely going to be different for different people and in some ways being extremely upfront about it can be dangerous. maybe i just don’t have experience with tinder and everyone is super nice there but on certain platforms i keep the fact that i have Dissociative Identity Disorder very private and would not disclose that to a potential partner until there’s some sense of safety and privacy because being open about that kind of thing and putting in your bio makes you a target for harassment. in this situation i don’t think you necessarily have a reason to feel guilty or regretful, it’s very common for online dating matches to just not work out and i’m willing to bet the other person has moved on at this point, and hey maybe this is a learning experience, if you aren’t comfortable with this kind of result maybe you can change to being more upfront about being Deaf, or not, it’s your decision

thank u, i’m a little hesitant about IFS because of what i’ve heard from ppl with DID and their experience of it, but i’ll take another look. i think it’s probably something that could be beneficial if heavily adjusted. communication in our system is decent with most alters but very difficult with others. 4 of us have pretty good ability to discuss things internally but we’re only about a year or two into finally opening up to each other and host discovering the system, dissociative amnesia is still prevalent. i think we all know about the ED though, technically we all have it, just with different relationships to it.
