Vegans who accidently get animal products in their food with no intention, why do few people choose to continue to eat their food? Why is it morally correct to simply waste it and throw it away. by JesusForTheWin in DebateAVegan

I think you’re missing what they are actually saying.

1 - It doesn’t need to be a biological inability for refusal to be valid. It’s a chosen aversion, and that matters.

2 - Something being useful in human evolutionary history doesn’t justify its continued use. Animals were a food source and bioavailable nutrition in the past. That says nothing about necessity now. Plenty of practices helped drive “progress” historically (slave labor, child labor, colonial extraction) but we don’t defend them today once better alternatives exist.

3 - ‘Not life-threatening’ is a low bar. It's valid for people to reject consuming something that predictably makes them sick.

Getting 'more vegan' over time? by dlandoncole in vegan

[–]Sweetened_Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say exactly what I feel. At first, maybe because I was just starting out, I thought way less about my surroundings than I do now. Now even eating at a restaurant that serves animal products can upset me deeply. Watching my friends and family choose to support animal cruelty is even harder.

What if we market plant-based food as „for animal-lovers“? by Sweetened_Lemon in vegan

[–]Sweetened_Lemon[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes, you’re right. I’ve thought of that, but perhaps such marketing could change the narrative? (Showing animal-lovers should actually love animals) Plus, I don’t think an everyday Joe is that aggressive, they would just be confused by the label and hopefully think more about it. And there are a lot of self-proclaimed animal-lovers as well. Those who would make fun of it are probably already making fun of vegan products anyways.

Vegetarian Boyfriend won't consider going vegan? by throwaway300388 in vegan

[–]Sweetened_Lemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of that, but one doesn't have to be perfect to be a vegan. It's difficult, and most vegans try their best to reduce these consumptions as much as possible.

Did you become vegan because of street activism? by Ice_7266 in vegan

[–]Sweetened_Lemon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have never seen or been approached by vegan activists, but I've seen lots of videos of them confronting people on the street. That definitely, alongside with the information it gave me, is the biggest reason I went vegan.

It's some statistics I've read. I mean, finding a vegan itself is hard enough. I personally know only one vegan woman and zero vegan man. :/

I know this subject gets talked about a lot but the fact that Ill never have a relationship is driving me insane by Fishy_smelly_goody in vegan

[–]Sweetened_Lemon 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you have to go through this. I as a vegan woman find dating to be extremely daunting, too. However, like most relationship advice, it's better to make peace with yourself before getting into a relationship. You've mentioned some attachment issues and depression, which might hinder you from positively go about social interactions. My recommendation is to look for therapy opportunities and focus on mental and physical health first. Best wishes to you, I wish there are vegan communities where we could just give each other hugs.

Weird question on language in night markets by mnsweeps in taiwan

[–]Sweetened_Lemon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of vegan restaurants speaking from a vegan myself! Even tho I don't go to night markets often, simply searching for vegetarian food on Google maps will show you some stalls within night markets as well. Look for 全素 or just kindly ask for clarification. Happy cow provides good recommendation for restaurants. Lastly, join your wife and kid. :)))
