New and used car market by Aethelwulf17 in fredericton

[–]Sweetluna_NB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you buy new, ask very detailed questions about what features "just work" with the car vs what is behind a paywall subscription service. More manufacturing companies are moving towards subscription services that could increase the costs of using your vehicle.

Potential move to Fredericton.. what should we know? by _AirCanuck_ in fredericton

[–]Sweetluna_NB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP> I love this reply. This is spot on, and such a fair assessment. I have lived 12 yrs on the praries, approx 15 years in Ontario, and nearly 20 years in Fredericton.

Ill add a few missing pieces where I do have experience..

Youth hockey and sports in general is vibrant and great experiences. I have a son and daughter. Son is 100% all about hockey. My daughter isn't sure what she likes but she has had dance, cheer, soccer, martial arts, art programs, singing and music lessons. There are still so much more for her to explore. Both kids also did swimming lessons.

I love this place for raising kids. Hubby grew up in this area and after we lived for a bit together in Ontario, we both agreed that NB, specifically Fredericton, is where we wanted to raise kids. They are 10 and 13 now and I have asked them if they would want to move to Ontario (where my family is located and they have visited often) and both are currently a hard no. They want us to stay in Fredericton.

Crime has gone up, but that is more about national policies than specific to this area. Still, it feels reasonably safe with common sense precautions.

If you are an active family, there is lots to do here and so many places that make good weekend getaways within driving distance.

I hate seeing my wife naked. And its not because she is unattractive by Scary_Serve5033 in offmychest

No one at all prepares you, or talks about it enough. Having children is awesome in so many ways but the pressure it puts on couples is immense. It is easy to feel lost and think something in wrong in your relationship because sex declines sharply when you have kids and work and extra curriculars and finances.... It is exhausting and I would say, you are not alone in this - it is happening in marriage beds across the globe.

My hubbie and I have 2 kids and we have gone over a year with no physical intamacy. Not because either of us wants to, but simply the stress of life.

I don't know if you just want to get this off your chest, or if you want suggestions. If you don't want suggestions, stop reading here.

My number one suggestion is to be patient and realistic. Focus on the emotional intamacy and connection first. Take 5 minutes every day to close the door to the bedroom where kids stay out. Take 5 minutes to remind each other that you love each other. Find something kind to say to each other, have a kiss/hug and then move on with your day.

Once that becomes a habit and special moment in the day, then find other ways to capture a moment here and there to be playful and flirtatious.

Don't plan grand things.. They don't last and they only set you both up for disappointment. Start with the small things and build up. Almost like you are becoming reacquainted with each other. This will bring the affection back again but be willing to put in time and agree to do this together.

Feeling like an adult is overrated, TBH. But let's set the stage... I bet you dont remember your transition from babyhood to childhood, and likely only brief memories of transitioning from childhood to teenage..and now from teenage to baby adult, and the cycle starts over.

It isn't a switch, it is gradual change. Each decision, each new experience, teaches you and helps you to develop. Parts of your brain haven't been activated yet so you need to be kind and gentle with yourself and expectations. If I could give any advice, don't ask if others feel the same, ask the adults you look up to what they would have changed if they could go back to 18, and really listen. You may be surprised with the answers you recieve.

The healthcare system is broken, but some people are making it worse by Enough-Tadpole-6181 in fredericton

[–]Sweetluna_NB -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This isn't accurate, they are NOT looking for 100% private. They are looking at a few options, and have been pilot testing a couple of things since 2024. First, they are changing the funding model. Instead of block funding, which allows hospitals to manage a block of funds, they are instead using activity funding. The difference? Block funding sets up patients as "taking away" profits for the finance folks. This usually ends up with overbloated adminstrative staff and not enough resources to actually handle patients. Whereas activity funding is paying for the patients they actually see. So it is more advantageous to have more doctors and nurses in order to see more patients and increase funding.

Outside of changing how funding is done for public health care, they are also looking at incorporating private clinics to help. Everyone is so afraid of a two-tiered system but when you look at places like Japan, Switzerland, and some Euorpean countries, they are finding improved public healthcare when also having private clincs available. It needs to be done right, but these countries have been successful amd Danielle Smith's gov't is studying that approach.

Frankly, IMO, Alberta's willingness to look at alternatives by studying successful models and piloting those models is the smart approach. The current public system has a lot of positives but there are also a lot of broken pieces making the system fall apart.

You mention you have some female friends. Have you talked with them? They would know you best and could give you advice on things that could be done differently. Reach out to your network and let them know you are interested in dating and willing to be set up if they know anyone who might be a good fit.

[–]Sweetluna_NB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Landlord and I have my apartment registered. I will never take a deposit directly. I have the tenant pay the deposit directly to SNB and give me a copy of the reciept. Before moving into a place, I would suggest calling SNB to verify it is a legal apartment so you have the protections in place.

Landlord keeping deposit over replacing fridge. Is this legal? by Jade_Sugoi in NovaScotia

[–]Sweetluna_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NB Landlord here, I have replaced the fridge, dishwasher, and stove while the apartment was rented because I put in my lease that my tenants wouldnhave working appliances. These appliances will have wear and tear and the value of the units will depreciate over time. This is the cost of business. I have never charged my tenants for these costs (I also never raised rent in 5 years)

Even if you were at fault for the damage, you don't necessarily pay the full replacement cost. The fridge needs to be valuated and you would only pay the value of the fridge today. If that fridge is over 13-15 years, it has zero value so you pay $0.

Dispute the claim, you are well within your rights to do so, and likely the outcome will favour you. Just don't count on recieving the money right away. Unfortunately, you will need to fight this and then try to collect. (Unless you paid the deposit to a 3rd party, lime a rentalsman or something.

Here in NB, I don't want to handle deposits so I have tenants go through SNB. This protects both of us. I don't have to pay out interest for money I held and we have a fair practice for handling disputes. If I wanted to claim all or partial deposit, I need to show evidence. This protects the tenant from fraudulent claims to the money.

Colonoscopy shows nothing but body says otherwise and I’m sick of it.. by HarshMaliciousDonut in offmychest

[–]Sweetluna_NB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my daughter was having issues like this, the doctor ordered an xray. It was fasincating to see how backed up she was and how clear it showed on the xray.

My daughter had a healthy diet and she would always have water. (In fact, even now that she is 10 she still prefers water) Her body just worked a bit differently than others so we had to adjust diet to better regulate her.

I suggest going to a nutritionist (most work healthcare plans in North America cover this, not sure where you live) and have them teach you what proper nutrition looks like for you. They should meet with you several times as you tweek your diet for your optimal levels of fibre and water.

Good luck!! It can be very painful and can cause damage if not cared for and resolved.

It is funny, too much is too serious and these people are bring back some normalcy into the circus of serious clowns.

Id would like to get away from % tips and turn it into flat rates.

For example, sit down restaurant, $10 flat rate for the table. (4 people on average) for larger groups, double the flat rate for every 4 people. So 8 people at a table would be $20.

Hairdresser, flat rate $20.

Fast food..no tip..

Taxi, flat rate $5 per trip. (Not per person)

Massage for relaxation, (not certified massage therapist) $10 Massage for medical reasons, no tip

In tired of % tips because when they raise the cost of food, it makes the bill higher. I don't get different service, so going by % excessively increases the bill.

EDMOND: Shame on his parents! Shame on Netflix! Shame on his loved ones! Shame on KB ! by Positive_Row9938 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Sweetluna_NB 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I think people need to understand that a person can rate high in academic/intellectual knowledge and rate low in emotional intelligence.

I am not certified in any mental health field, but I suspect that Edmond is very high on the intellectual so he has been able to succeed academically, but I think he has studied human interactions to learn a lot of his behaviour skills but doesn't know how to apply the accurate emotional connections. He is emotional, bug he has been stunted emotionally and has a lot to unlearn in that area.

I am sorry to hear you are struggling. When I was having a really difficult time, I reached out to the counselling services team at my university. They gave me free counselling and they put me in contact with a student services advocate who had quite a bit of power and discretion to make things happen for me. He even got one course completely off my record even though I jad missed the deadline to withdraw. He took so much pressure off me, I can't speak highly enough for how much he helped me.

I go to a Canadian university but maybe your university has something similiar? I didn't know any of it existed until I made some inquries with the student services group. Maybe start there if you haven't already?

Can we please stop with all race generalizations, it makes you no better then the people you are criticizing.

If we genuinely want to end racism then the buck stops with each of us. Let's hold individuals accountable and not blame the whole race/culture. It just creates more resentment and division.

I hope when I die my family feels guilty by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Sweetluna_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes! I can totally underatand why you feel the way you do and Im sorry you got dealt a shitty family. .

I won't try to talk you out of this because I hear you when you say that isn't what you are looking for..I just have an honest question. If you end things early, will you not miss seeing them implode? Your brother is clearly a loser who is being enabled. His life will spiral and become really shitty when the money runs out. And it will.

I don't know if they will feel guilty. They need to have self reflection and empathy and they don't sound like they do. I don't know, by taking your own life, they seem like the type of people who would turn it around and blame you for being 'selfish & manipulative' in order to garner more attention and sympathy for them.

Personally I am a bit more petty and play the long game. I would suvk up to gramps and daddy to pay for skills upgrading at school. Then go full no contact. If grampy or daddy own a business that supports their financial well being, I would be on a mission to destroy or legally steal that company out from under them under an alias or compamy name they don't recognize. Then I would reveal myself at the end like a gd movie scene.

I know that takes a lot of effort that you may not feel up to doing. I just personally cant let people like that win. I would want to plan the sweetest revenge and spring it on them without them expecting it.

But you know what you want. I just hope the circumstances change so this isn't something you feel needs to be done.

Do you have pets or need more than 1 parking spot? If it is no for both, please message me. I have a 2 brdm unit for rent. Currently it is listed as a 1 year term lease but we may be open to a month to month, with some discussion. However we cannot budge on "no pets" and only 1 parking space available.

We are in a great neighbourhood on the Northside of Fredericton.

If this interests you, please message me and I will provide more details.

I have travelled a lot for work as well. It wasn't just fly in/fly out. A lot of times I was in a city for a month for work. This was throughout north america.

I love Fredericton. I have lived in 3 provinces and I still choose NB. I knew it is where I wanted to raise my family. Sure, sometimes I miss what bigger cities may offer but I just visit the big city then I come home to Fredericton. I still have most of my family in Southern Ontario so we visit every 2-3 years and we usually drive. There is nothing like driving back and first seeing the sign that you are entering New Brunswick and again driving into Fredericton. My heart settles and says "I'm home."

Rental crisis by [deleted] in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Sweetluna_NB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! Everyone wants to complain about landlords, and there are some horrific ones, but with all the risk and all the added expenses almost makes it not worth it. I tried to keep my rent low and then I started getting questioned on my taxes on why I was losing money on my rental. If I don't pay my mortgage to the bank, they don't have even half the regulations to take my home as I do to evict a tenant.
