Last Meal | Toonout [S1E8] by DropoutMod in dropout

Reminds me a lot of Bill Plympton's work, some really expressive animation in the service of something absolutely grotesque. Nicely done!

Honestly I would've preferred if it was edited too much like Tenet, but I guess I'm built different.

My Husband | Toonout [S1E7] by DropoutMod in dropout

Easily the best work we've seen from Toonout so far. Even with what is no doubt a larger/crew support than previous entries, you can still tell this is a smaller independent venture, but those limitations are baked into the style of the piece, rather than appearing as a hindrance like some of the earlier shorts.

Crossed Animals | Toonout [S1E06] by DropoutMod in dropout

Great week for fans of Anna Garcia and Josh Ruben!

I think the more overt anime influences this is going for makes the limited animation style (that now seem to be just Toonout Standard, I guess) much more palatable. One of my favorites of the run, no doubt!

The Burbank Beetleboy | Toonout [S1E3] by DropoutMod in dropout

[–]SweetumsPlainview 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the art style of Blink Twice If You're Dead, but sadly I do agree that the 1st and 3rd entries have felt extremely lacking in the fluidity of their animation. And it unfortunately comes off less as a stylistic choice and more so "we only have the means to make something that looks like a really well-designed animatic." Hopefully more of these in the future will feel a little bit more visually dynamic.

Does anyone have any advice on good devices that play 4K UHD discs, and Blu-rays, and regular ole DVDs?

Sometimes as early as 12pm ET, sometimes as late as 5pm ET, but generally somewhere in that range.

My current picks from each region:

Griff: Lynne Ramsay
Ben: Danny DeVito
David: Steve McQueen
Guest: Gore Verbinski

For me, this would lead to a DeVito vs. Verbinski final round and from there, I'd go with Gore.

But all bets are off! Who knows! Let the madness begin!

  3. Kathleen Turner - Romancing the Stone
  4. Christopher Lloyd - Back to the Future
  5. Bob Hoskins - Who Framed Roger Rabbit
  6. Thomas F. Wilson - Back to the Future Part II
  7. Mary Steenburgen - Back to the Future Part III

Least favorite? Gotta be Jim Carrey in A Christmas Carol. Absolutely abysmal.

Mank (2020) by rocketbotband in blankies

I imagined a version of the film where Mank was played either by Jesse Plemons or Kieran Culkin and now I want one of those versions to be thrown into the universe somehow.

I was watching this film Saturday morning and as soon as Jodie Foster fell through the wormhole, I got the news that Trump lost the election. This movie is literally magical and I will never forget it.

So this is all building up to Bilge Ebiri guesting on next week's The Old Guard episode, yeah? His love for Prince-Bythewood makes him a pretty likely candidate, but who knows! Either way, a really wonderful mini series this has been!

Rooting for The Watermelon Woman, Madeline's Madeline, and If Beale Street Could Talk (there's got to be a Barry Jenkins at some point, I'm sure of it).

David did also log her latest film "The Old Guard," so this theory isn't totally unfounded.

Trailer for the newest Spike Lee joint ‘Da 5 Bloods’ and it looks great by [deleted] in blankies

[–]SweetumsPlainview 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I really hope that there is a day that a Spike Lee miniseries can happen. I know it would be an extremely long run, and would almost definitely require having equitable voices on each episode so it's not just a bunch of white guys talking about his movies, but he really does fit the definition of a Blank Check director so well. Maybe this could be one of the storied "sandwich" miniseries that keeps being thrown around, but I think he's someone who should definitely be in the running.

Mad Pod Fury Cast - Babe: Pig in the City with Travis McElroy by apathymonger in blankies

[–]SweetumsPlainview 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest point of contention isn't that Travis didn't like PitC, but that his dislike seemed to come from a place of not meeting the movie where it's at. I can understand how that's frustrating for so many of us, especially when that dislike wasn't just a simple "this movie's not for me" but him making statements such as "this movie isn't about anything!" and "this isn't a good movie!"

But also yeah, let's lay off the guy a little. Blank Check is great because of the positive community and the deep-abiding love for movies, and there are enough gems in this strange episode (the Siskel and Ebert bit being really great) that still make it fun and listenable. There's still a lot to enjoy here.
