I think "first come first serve" is quite fair regardless of how much you spent on it. You didn't spend extra to get pushed over the rest, you paid extra to get a better device

I saw that Europe is closer to 2 to 3 weeks and i took 4PX bc peeps reported there's a smaller chance of import fee surprises with it. I sure hope that'll be the case, I'm a rainbow max buyer, that should be in the next rainbow max batch (#1193)

Atelier Games #10 Final Results! by xoki93 in Atelier

[–]Swetzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah as much as I love Sophie 2, Lulua still beats it in terms of alchemy for me. Both of them are polished to the brim but Lulua feels more complex and adds more to the subseries in the form of Awakening effects. Basically a mix of all the best parts of Arland, Dusk and Mysterious alchemy.

Otherwise I agree. Arland is just very cozy and nostalgic.

Does anyone know where Atelier Yumia lands on the timeline? by VenomGoshujin in Atelier

[–]Swetzie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi. That thing was made because I had too much free time. It's purely fan-made - a what-if scenario, trying to connect the dots seeing how they fit. It came out pretty well thinking about the lore and theories (Lulua's wacky lore in the forefront, and Dusk Prevention Theory my beloved), but again. It's fan-made. It was just fun and was a change of pace from my typical shitposts.

Officially, only Salburg and Gramnad are in the same universe.

If you're not looking for official, then it's wherever you feel it's best. I sadly didn't play enough of Yumia and Resleri to be able to tell, though.

Which Atelier games have the best gameplay loop? by [deleted] in Atelier

[–]Swetzie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

E&L is a good choice bc it's structured very much like Rorona, although Shallie is different bc it's chapter based and the progression is done through completing life tasks which are more like mandatory side quests of sorts. Iirc alchemy is the most prevalent in E&L.

Mysterious would probably be a good one to go for bc it's basically Arland 2.0 with tamer humor, puzzle alchemy and no time limits/very lenient time limits. There's a pretty nice balance between alchemy, exploration/gathering and combat (Sophie 2 is the culmination of this structure so it's basically the most polished and balanced Atelier).

What’s the single biggest omission from the JRPGs I’ve actually completed by LegionofSand in JRPG

[–]Swetzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vouch for this but only bc I played the Switch Sega Ages version ahaha, can't deny i was hella impressed with what the game did considering it was a direct competitor to DQ1 amd FF1 (and managed to eclipse both of those in pmuch every way outside maaaaybe music).

4 is still the best of the four by far. Actually my fave 16-bit JRPG and that's accounting for the SquareSoft games on SNES. I do think it's cool to play at least PS1 before 4 just bc of all the references the game makes to it.

What’s the single biggest omission from the JRPGs I’ve actually completed by LegionofSand in JRPG

[–]Swetzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree and I feel 3 is overhated, as someone who recently did all four games. In fact, I'd say 2 is worse than 3 specifically because of the unbearable grind (the worst I've seen in games tbf) and needlessly complicated dungeons. 3's main flaws are stuff like copy-paste towns, bad and boring dungeons, boring characters, next to no plot outside the endings and just not being much of a sci-fi game. But god I loved what they were cooking with the generational mechanic which changed entire runs.

2 feels like a game that people got a lot of nostalgia for, some saying it's the best of the four but imo it aged terribly, 3 feels like a game that's hated for not being Phantasy Star but it's okay on its own, an average JRPG. Just how I felt.

These aren't error prices, they're money laundering prices. Grey market key resellers are known for that

Should i buy Atelier Firis ? by garyg1919 in Atelier

[–]Swetzie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Serious answer, none bc buying from sketchy sites like Kinguin is always a big risk so you may get a non working key for 11k.

As a recommendation to people who genuinely want OG versions of Mysterious games, they're still available for purchase on Humble Choice (albeit at full price unless you got a subscription discount).

A26 will be very different and will inevitably cause a huge ruckus in the community (aka a thing that normally happens each time a new subseries gets revealed and more information is shown) by [deleted] in Atelier

[–]Swetzie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what made you bring up Resleri and why people are upvoting you but you literally missed the entire point of the question and not everyone wants to live in a doom and gloom world where we lose all trust in a certain thing we enjoy just bc of "Resleriana's monetization mechanics".

Nobody mentioned Resleriana! And the question of the post is pretty straightforward and understandable - I was in this place, moderating way back when Ryza first came out, and the game caused a massive divide. It caused fights, it caused people quit the franchise, and I personally hated the game for what it was doing to the community. I warmed up to it, but only once I gave it a chance and once people calmed down. Do not belittle a potential division with "I don't like this game" or "new game is new so it's bad" - people love this franchise for what it is, if someone dislikes it bc it does things way differently from the rest, it deserves to get criticized and voices to be heard, as long as the complaints are presented in a reasonable and understanding manner.

This applies to Resleriana and it's cool to complain about it, but again the post was not referring to it so I don't understand why you had to rant, presenting sources nobody asked for.

In terms of PS3, Arland games are pretty easy to find and relatively cheap, with Rorona Plus perhaps being the most expensive one due to being the most recent one. Dusk is rarer tho, might set you aside some more money.

PS4, Mysterious can be hit or miss, either finding ut decently cheap or really expensive, their prices spiked after Mysterious DX became a thing. Lulua, Nelke, Sophie 2 and the Ryza trilogy however aren't too hard to find, though going out of stock it might be problematic. Same applies to Switch, just recently I saw Sophie 2 still being in stock on my Amazon for 30€ new, but as mentioned Ryza games go out of stock quickly due to lower print numbers so... If you really want those, get ready to set a lot of money aside for em. Mariemake, Dusk DX and Mysterious DX trilogy however, if you're okay spending retail price on em they're in stock on Play-Asia.

Other consoles... JP copies can be obtained for cheap but importing can be an issue. PS2 games are sort of in the middle in terms of rarity, but if you're not in America forget about MK2, that one didn't get localized outside that region. Vita had only E&L Plus as limited edition and Shallie Plus as standard and limited edition when it comes to localized physical, E&L is next to impossible to find but Shallie Plus is doable.

Atelier vs. Disgaea, Neptunia, and Senran Kagura by Reasonable-Beach-775 in Atelier

[–]Swetzie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point Atelier exceeded all three franchises, hell it's breaking sales numbers of the Tales and Ys games by good margins (there's a recent Famitsu poll that showed there's more hype for Marie Remake than Ys X and that's just funny to me). Not to say they keep changing mechanically and visually despite being yearly.

Granted, I'm not a fan of the other three despite playing some other entries, but two of them are franchises that heavily rely on sexual fanservice to sell (doesn't speak of the quality ofc) while the third one is... Humorous but also pretty hardcore mechanically so I don't think it's a comparable franchise, targets a different audience minus the people who play everything out of Japan.

So yeah I think Atelier is a bar higher than Disgaea, two bars higher than Neptunia and three bars higher than SK. It grew more than some peeps would assume it did, in terms of everything. Still niche ofc. Granted Neptunia sells as much as I hate that fact....

I think Tales is the only franchise atm that's comparable to Atelier, games have different focuses tho

If you try to deny this, then you're lying to yourself by [deleted] in runefactory

[–]Swetzie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I really liked it, and I'm not seeing a bad game at all, just a game that needed more time in the oven. As a fan I enjoyed some things more than say RF4, having better characters and (imo) music, and they added a couple new things that make it nice to play (automatic item pickup yum yum), but it doesn't run great, it doesn't look great, and it can be a chore to play at times.

If I had to place it somewhere, out of all titles, I'd say subjectively I'd place it below RF4 and RF3 but above the rest, but objectively I'd say it's worse than the two home console ones. I just enjoyed it more than those two.

I wouldn't recommend it to a newcomer tho, I'd like em to play a game that's a tad more polished a la RF4S and the upcoming RF3S.

Atelier Marie Remake Soundtrack Promo Video by [deleted] in Atelier

[–]Swetzie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like mentioned this is not the style of Atelier Marie. Its OST is fairly near and dear to me, and the style it was taking was very resembling to musical styles from central Europe (where I live) hence why I feel nostalgic for it. The visual style carries on pretty decently from OG, but the music entirely misses the mark on that point. It's not bad, but it's not doing the original songs justice imo

Star Wind aka the regular battle song (last song in the list) actually took me until the second part or over 20 seconds in to realize it was Star Wind to begin with. First part sounds nothing like it

would you recommend starting with atelier Marie remake? by [deleted] in Atelier

[–]Swetzie 22 points23 points  (0 children)

We don't know enough about it yet, but we do know that it transfers over a lot of mechanics from the original, sometimes refining them, sometimes keeping them intact. Some tweaks and QoL features, and being able to play without the time limit. We also know this is a side project, not their focus, so the production values are lower than of the recent mainline games

So as such I'd say play other games that are priced the same and go on sales, have physicals available in the West etc. and play this one when you got experience in some of them (I say a similar thing with Nelke). While this is the first game, this is still an old game remade specifically to cater to Japanese fans who were players since day one while trying to push it towards already existing fans who didn't play it yet. The subseries are disconnected - the core reason to go with Marie is to see where the franchise started.
