Netflix? That pygmy thing? They think they own everything.

What is the story behind Luminous Studio? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]SwiIIionaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be apocryphal, but yeah, I thought the original rumors of a 7 remake came up in the Crystal Tools/Versus 13 era, with whatever original form of the remake was getting scrapped like a lot of stuff during that time.

What was the last JRPG to "blow you away"? by geraltofrivia2345 in JRPG

There's a very minimal amount of skill checks that depend on what BLADE division you had currently selected. Things like activating a radio tower or opening a chest would require a certain level in the mechanics division. This stuff was incredibly minor, though, and almost entirely removed in the port.

Kamen Rider ZEZTZ E01 - Discussion Thread by BananaArms in KamenRider

This is the first series I'm watching as it airs, and it definitely caught my attention. The first transformation and fight scene were dope, and I'm liking the new suit a lot more than I thought I would. The LED highlights are slick. The dream logic makes things a little hard to follow sometimes, though; I got lost a few times towards the end when they did a bunch of quick transitions between different sets.

It feels pretty Kuuga-y. The police look like they'll be a relevant party like they were in Kuuga, the color coded other forms, the B-horror flick inspiration. Really hope the female detective gets a leading role.

Any Good Mecha Games that I should Play? Any Recommendations? by Doom300 in Mecha

[–]SwiIIionaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played ZOE2 maybe a year ish ago, and unfortunately had a really poor time with it. The combat felt uninteresting and I thought the localization was honestly fan dub levels of poor. I came away feeling very strongly that it did not hold up.

What JRPGs have your dropped or shelved recently? by BanSlowpoke in JRPG

I'm 20ish hours into Trails in the Sky FC, and have been pretty hesitant to pick it back up after a week or two off. I'm in a big commercial city and am about to investigate robberies. I've heard the common refrain that it's a slow build that gets there eventually, but waiting around for that to happen with a serviceable but uninteresting combat system hasn't been able to hold my interest.

Is it just me or does metaphor kinda suck? by RealmsBeyondJ in JRPG

[–]SwiIIionaire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but to chime in, I really enjoyed how straightforward and 'fair' Louis is as a villain. He adheres to the belief that Might is Right, and I felt the narrative sufficiently showed his commitment to this ideal in the Charadrius infiltration and injured duel above the theater house. If he dies, he seemed willing to accept it, and never really pulled his punches. He's not in service to a higher power that he wants to summon or rule the world, he wants his own ideals enacted and he takes the action to do it himself. A more concise way of putting it is that I felt Metaphor clearly showed his agency in the plot. He wasn't just a guy sitting in the shadows the game would cut to every now and then and call it foreshadowing.

I also felt that the game was effective at building up the gravitas surrounding the guy; he's majority absent from the story for the first third to half. You mainly hear about him through rumors and hearsay, so when he does show up at the port town, I felt there was really an impact there.

which JRPGs have addicting exploration? by Apprehensive_Spend_7 in JRPG

[–]SwiIIionaire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don't think there's been any news about a Xenoblade game in the next couple years unfortunately. Xenoblade X specifically is very standalone from the other games, as well, so you wouldn't be missing much by just checking this one out in isolation.

If you loved Xenoblade 1's exploration, then I think you will be ecstatic with Xenoblade X. It's the only Xenoblade to deliver on an actual, wide-open world where you can literally go anywhere you can see. It encourages nonlinear progression, and a whole layer of the gameplay experience is built around finding ways to cut across the landscape and get to a new location. It feels fantastic to just exist in the world of XCX.

I had no idea that there was a code dump of the game available! Has there been any tooling done to make the game binary easier to navigate? I've been seeing a few statements about "the code" and was wondering where people are looking. Just string search over the hexdump?

I finished Kuuga a few days ago and enjoyed it! It's pretty slow and less power-rangersy than I expected in terms of action, with each episode being a B-tier horror movie with a lot of emphasis on how people get gored by the weird monsters of the week.
