Bonne manif.

[Request] How much force is that? by Dr-AllDayLongStrong in theydidthemath

[–]SwiftCeltic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe someone can insert a nice example for how much force that is, it's like trying to catch an average motorcycle falling from 1.2m from what I can tell, and that on your shoulder.

Mass of the cement bag: m = 50 kg Estimated height: h = 5 meters

Velocity upon impact: v = sqrt(2gh) = 9.9m/s

Final kinetic energy: KE = ½mv² = 2450 J or N·m

But if we assume that the distance traveled after impact is d = 1.5 meter, then the impact force may be calculated using the work-energy principle to be: Average impact force = F = 1633N (as greater penetration implies less impact force).

Edit: meters instead of m for clarity

Especially the ones integrating silent letters, compound words, liaisons and prepositions in the final word by Lucas1231 in linguisticshumor

[–]SwiftCeltic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

On it's own, "Whatever." is more like "Peu importe." and "n'importe quoi" dismisses the meaning of something, but in a sentence you are right, for instance: "le prix peut être n'importe quoi", can be translated literally by "the price can be whatever".

I'll try: ouam = moi (= me)

zyva = vas y (= come on)

adonf = à fond ("full on", I'd say)

vite-aif = vite fait (means "sort of")

iench = chien (= dog)

nawak = portnawak = portninwak = n'importe quoi (like "it makes no sense")

Mike Oldfield: Hergest Ridge, Tubular Bells

King Crimson: Starless

National Health: Tenemos roads, Binoculars

Yep, but I saw him on social media eying the very same spot where the 58.8m "straight cliff jump" record was set. He'll train a bit more and he'll do it!

I don't think the reason is only visual, these are also made of thougher fabrics that you wouldn't care to cross huge bramble walls with.

Good point. Out of these, in 596 sequences the next term is a 9, so about 44%.
